by Thinus Ferreira

Netflix will release a third season of Young, Famous & African on 17 January 2025, produced by Urban Brew Studios and Apop Media, with Jwalane Letaba as showrunner.

Coronavirus: SuperSport-produced HomeGround on Mzansi Magic shuts down over Covid-19: 'We've taken the decision to be off-air for a few weeks until further notice'.

by Thinus Ferreira

SuperSport and M-Net have shut down production indefinitely on its local celebrity and sports interview show HomeGround done for Mzansi Magic (DStv 161) due to the rapid increase of Covid-19 in South Africa as the global coronavirus pandemic keeps spreading.

On Sunday evening president Cyril Ramaphosa declared a national state of disaster and announced drastic measures to try and curb the spread of the virus in the country, including banning gatherings of more than 100 people.

Monday night's episode of HomeGround with presenters Lungile Radu and Minnie Dlamini-Jones was the last for the time being, with the lifestyle sports magazine show that features celebrity guests as well as artists who perform and is produced by SuperSport for Mzansi Magic.

kykNET told TVwithThinus on Wednesday that it won't be shutting down Tjoks & Tjops on its kykNET (DStv 144) channel, an Afrikaans sports lifestyle show that follows the same format but that the channel is relooking the show's format and content and will comment about it soon.

Similar to the BBC, the South African public broadcaster is postponing shows that would have filmed in April that makes use of an in-studio audience or performances, with the SABC that is also trying to pre-record some live shows to stock up in case it's needed.

kykNET's second season of its talent search reality show Maak My Famous with Emo Adams that uses an in-studio audience in Cape Town decided to postpone filming to later in April for the time being.

Since Sunday Mzansi Magic was asked several times which shows on its schedule has temporarily ended or been postponed because of growing coronavirus fears but didn't respond with a list.

"After the president's address we've taken the decision to be off-air for a few weeks until further notice," said Minnie Dlamini-Jones in Monday night's last HomeGround episode for now.

"We will be back. Make sure that you self-quarantine and look after yourselves and lets see if we can get that [Covid-19 infection rate] number down to zero so things can go back to normal as soon as possible because we can't wait to be back on your screen," she said as she demonstrated an elbow-bump with Lungile.

SuperSport adds new Saturday morning show, The Weekender, with Neil Andrews.

by Thinus Ferreira

SuperSport is adding a brand-new Saturday morning sports talk show The Weekender, presenter by the veteran sports anchor Neil Andrews.

With The Weekender SuperSport and Neil Andrews will be "borrowing unashamedly" from the erstwhile and hugely popular Super Saturday show that SuperSport ended in 2008 after a decade on the air.

The hourlong The Weekender that will air on Saturday mornings at 08:00 across various of the SuperSport channels on MultiChoice's DStv satellite pay-TV service will include viewer comments with Neil Andrews who will dip into the sporting zeitgeist and talk about what's been and what is to come in the sports world.

With the Soweto derby top of mind, among the first show's guests on this coming Saturday will be football experts Phumlani Msibi and Stanton Fredericks, the midfielder who played for both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

El Clasico, being played on Sunday, will also be a topic for discussion.

Gcobani Bobo and Mpumelelo Mbangwa will talk about rugby and cricket respectively, with Minnie Dlamini who will also be behind The Weekender anchor desk.

A "Panel Challenge" on Saturday will involve the presenters facing the speed of a professional tennis player's serve.

"SuperSport broadcasts such stellar live sport every weekend and The Weekender will remind our subscribers what not to miss, when and why," says Neil Andrews. "It's a fresh new look that intends to inform and entertain viewers while celebrating our incredible offering of unmissable live sport."

MultiChoice content boss, Aletta Alberts, on 15 years of E! from NBCUniversal International Networks on DStv: 'Africans will continue to be part of the E! story'.

Aletta Alberts, MultiChoice's content boss, has congratulated NBCUniversal International Networks on the anniversary of 15 years of its E! Entertainment (DStv 124) channel being carried on the DStv satellite pay-TV service in South Africa and across Africa, saying that African viewers and talent "have always been, and will continue to be, part of the E! story".

On Thursday night NBCUniversal International Networks (NBCUIN) held a red carpet party to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the presence of the entertainment channel in South Africa and Africa.

Some of the recipients of its first-ever E! Africa Pop Culture Awards attended the very full event held at the new Alice & Fifth underground avant-garde nightclub in Johannesburg inside the Sandton Sun Hotel, along with local celebrities and TV presenters, NBCUIN and MultiChoice executives, other TV executives and producers, advertising executives and sponsors, as well as the press.

At the event NBCUniversal International Networks also gave guests a first look at its new E! Africa TV commercial as part of a new #LoveELiveE channel brand promotion marketing campaign that is being rolled out in South Africa and Nigeria.

The new campaign features a blend of E!'s Hollywood talent along with South African stars and one from Nigeria. Besides the TV commercial NBCUIN will also do billboard-sized "building wraps" in Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa, and Lagos in Nigeria for a 6-week period from mid-April.

Lee Raftery, NBCUniversal International Networks content and marketing boss for the Africa region and based in London, had a short on-stage speech Thursday night about E!'s 15th anniversary milestone in Africa.

"We're particularly proud of our local productions. We've covered red carpets, as well as our most recent production, How Do I Look? South Africa. And there's our recent announcement of our new local production set for the second half of the year, our version of the Emmy-award winning Hollywood Game Night, Celebrity Game Night."

Aletta Alberts, MultiChoice's head of content strategy, said on-stage that "I can't believe it's been 15 years and what an amazing journey it's been".

"E! has always been very, very close to my heart," she said. "The first thing was The Girls from the Playboy Mansion and I thought that was the gift that kept on giving. But then, the Kardashians arrived."

"And how did we underestimate Kris Jenner and the Kardashians! I must say I saw Kendall and Kylie - I saw that show coming. When they were still little I thought: 'They're going to grow up and be fabulous and they're probably going to be the next generation."

"But what I didn't see coming was Caitlyn Jenner. Trust me, I don't think even Kris saw that coming," said Aletta Alberts.

"E! has always been a trendsetter as was the case with its reimaging from the red E! channel to the black-and-white channel and the slogan 'Pop of Culture'."

"Africans have always been, and will continue to be, part of the E! story, as we see more and more extraordinary talented people from this continent make their way to LaLa-land," said Aletta Alberts.

Minnie Dlamini, who features in the E! Africa TV commercial, told TVwithThinus on Thursday night that "What E! has done in terms of being the leaders of pop culture has truly been revolutionary. Thank you for sticking around for 15 years. Thank you for coming to Africa".

A planned NBCUI interview with Lee Raftery on Thursday didn't work out and wasn't possible.

Bonang Matheba, Minnie Dlamini and Lasizwe panned over red carpet fashion choices, Nomzamo Mbatha and Aisha Baker praised for E! Africa's 15th birthday celebration.

The South African celebrities Bonang Matheba, Minnie Dlamini and Lasizwe Dambuza (who forgot to put on pants) got slammed, while Nomzamo Mbatha and social media influencer Aisha Baker garnered praise, over their respective red carpet fashion choices at Thursday night's E! Africa party to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the presence of the entertainment channel from NBCUniversal International Networks in South Africa and Africa.

Bonang Matheba, Lasizwe Dambusa in a white "man-tard" without pants, and Minnie Dlamini in a Marilyn Monroe inspired, head-to-toe pink look from fashion designer Gert-Johan Coetzee, were all panned on social media for their red carpet couture choices.

Bonang Matheba, meanwhile, in Villiotti Fashion, was criticised for looking like she was repeating an outfit and for not trying hard enough.

The worst-dressed of the evening on the E! Africa red carpet was Lasizwe Dambuza.

Nomzamo Mbatha garnered universal praise for her E! Africa red carpet appearance, as did Aisha Baker. Nomzamo Mbatha received the E! Africa Pop Culture Award for Philanthropy while Aisha Baker received the E! Africa Pop Culture Award for Social Media.

E! unveils a new E! Africa TV commercial to celebrate its presence of 15 years on the continent; 'it was like a proper film set,' says Roxy Burger.

E! Entertainment (DStv 124) filmed and has launched a brand-new TV promo including Bonang Matheba, Minnie Dlamini, Roxy BurgerKat Sinivasan, beatboxer Tina Redman and Nigerian rapper D'banj as part of a marketing campaign to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the presence of the channel from NBCUniversal International Networks (NBCUIN) in South Africa and across Africa.

Lee Raftery, NBCUniversal International Networks content and marketing boss for the Africa region, unveiled and played the TV promo at the #15YearsOfE in Africa celebration party that took place on Thursday night at the Alice & Fifth underground avant-garde nightclub at the Sandton Sun Hotel in Johannesburg where celebrities, TV executives and the media mingled.

The #LoveELiveE brand campaign comes after NBCUIN did the first-ever E! Africa Pop Culture Awards giving 7 E!-trophies to South African and Nigerian stars.

Besides the South African and Nigerian star, the TV promo also includes the E! News co-anchor Giuliana Rancic, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star Kim Kardashian and Dr Terry Dubrow and Dr Paul Nassif from the Botched reality show.

In the new promo spot, the E! talent appear in the brand commercial that gives the smartphone a prominent and central place - the device that has propelled and forced channels like E! to adapt to the avalanche of quickly-available entertainment news content now available, but also creating a new opportunity to use and leverage the content now being generated by social media users themselves.

In a press statement quote hand-out to media, Lee Raftery, managing director for the United Kingdom and emerging markets and chief marketing and content officer at NBCUniversal International, said "As we mark our 15 year anniversary in Africa, in partnership with DStv, the #LoveELiveE brand campaign celebrates our passion for all things entertainment and celebrity – in a way that only E! Africa could do – by combining best-in-class talent from Hollywood and Africa".

"E! has a very exciting year ahead with the recent announcement of our new local commission, Celebrity Game Night, airing late-2019 with more details to follow in the coming months."

A planned NBCUI interview with Lee Raftery on Thursday didn't work out and wasn't possible.

Roxy Burger, co-host of How Do I Look? South Africa at Thursday night's E! party event told TVwithThinus that "it was absolutely incredible to be in this TV commercial for E! Africa".

"Filming this E! TV commercial was so much fun - I think the level and standard of what we did was just amazing. It was like a proper film set, you know!"

"So for me as someone coming from and working in television, I'm not used to these fancy things, so it was amazing. And to share the E! stage with people like Minnie Dlamini, Bonang Mathema and D'banj was an honour and really cool."

Kat Sinivasan, co-host of How Do I Look? South Africa and E!'s Africa correspondent, told TVwithThinus that filming the E! TV commercial was "fantastic and spectacular", done really professionally and on a large scale.

Minnie Dlamini told TVwithThinus "It was really fun, it was actually really painless. We did it super, super quick - almost like a 'one-take wonder'. It was really, really fun!"

A planned NBCUI interview with Bonang Matheba on Thursday didn't work out and wasn't possible.

South African TV viewers will once again experience disruption to their SABC TV schedules due to the 2018 FIFA World Cup starting today, with shows disappearing and several moving channels and timeslots, while SuperSport and StarSat are both bringing pay-TV subscribers coverage of the global tournament over the next few weeks in addition to the SABC.

Minnie Dlamini's wedding special Becoming Mrs Jones lifts VUZU AMP to a ratings high for the channel on DStv - but the AR is still very small.

The first episode of Minnie Dlamini's 3-part TV wedding special Becoming Mrs. Jones, that started last week Friday, lifted VUZU AMP (DStv 103) to a channel ratings high with 98 698 viewers.

According to M-Net that packages and programmes the VUZU AMP channel for MultiChoice's DStv satellite pay-TV platform, the first episode's audience rating that's just short of the 100 000 viewership tally "is officially the highest rated show in VUZU AMP history".

There are however two caveats.

In context the audience rating (AR) of 98 698 viewers aged 15 and older for Becoming Mrs. Jones is still very small given the total DStv and free-to-air TV household audience available in South Africa.

That's because the channel is only available to subscribers on MultiChoice's most expensive DStv Premium bouquet, limiting the number of people who have access to it.

Secondly M-Net counts VUZU AMP's start as a channel from its launch out of the existing VUZU channel as October 2014.

It means that VUZU AMP is just 3 years old - so there's not a lot of "VUZU AMP history" as far as AR's are concerned.

On a relatively new TV channel starting from a small viewership base, audience share often rises over time as awareness, incidental sampling and the hours of original or unique programming on it expand.

What is making the Becoming Mrs. Jones debut on VUZU AMP impressive however is that it more than doubled the audience that tuned in for Bonang Matheba's reality show Being Bonang that was also on VUZU AMP filling the same exact same genre and timeslot.

Becoming Mrs. Jones at 98 698 more than doubled the 44 614 viewers who tuned in for the most-watched Being Bonang episode - although it's a TV programming truism than a wedding and wedding reality drama will lure more eyeballs than a day-to-day, cinéma vérité style reality series.

Becoming Mrs. Jones was produced by Beautiful Day Productions with Minnie Dlamini as executive producer for the first time.

Minnie Dlamini on showing her Becoming Mrs. Jones wedding special: I'm nervous but I can't wait to share it'; says 'I did not get R6 million for the show'.

Minnie Dlamini who is finally ready to showcase her self-produced TV wedding special to DStv viewers in South Africa and across Africa from this Friday, tells TVwithThinus that "even thinking about it makes me nervous but I can't wait to share it".

The TV star also laughs about hilariously inaccurate tabloid reports in June this year that she "sold her wedding to MultiChoice for R6 million".

It's actually a 3-episode wedding TV special that was acquired by M-Net for its VUZU AMP entertainment channel that is carried on DStv.

"I did not get R6 million for the show. I wish I did, but I did not," says Minnie Dlamini.

At the beginning of the year the veteran TV presenter jumped from the SABC to SuperSport, and is now co-presenting the show Homeground that is being simulcast on SuperSport and Mzansi Magic (DStv 161).

Minnie Dlamini's wedding TV special, Minnie Dlamini: Becoming Mrs. Jones, will unspool as a 3-part special on VUZU AMP (DStv 103) starting on Friday 13 October at 19:30.

The first episode of Minnie Dlamini: Becoming Mrs. Jones will take viewers through the process behind planning her wedding and the preparations for the traditional and western ceremonies.

The second episode of the 3-part special produced by her Beautiful Day Productions with Minnie Dlamini in the role as executive producer for the first time, follows her to Paris for her lavish bachelorette party with her bridesmaids.

This episode will also include her dazzling traditional wedding and a deeper look into how her Zulu culture celebrates marriage.

The third and final episode will showcase the elegant western wedding set in the opulent backdrop of Somerset West in the Western Cape and is the episode Minnie calls "closest to her heart" as viewers will see her get married to Quinton Jones in a white wedding dress covered in Swarovski crystals, designed by Gert Johan Coetzee.

Tabloids had a field day about your wedding rights being "sold for R6 million to MultiChoice. But this is a "wedding story" filmed by VUZU AMP to air as a miniseries. How did the idea come about?
Minnie: Firstly, I did not get R6 million for the show. I wish I did, but I did not.
This is more of a 3-part documentary series. I came up with the idea after the media frenzy after the announcement of my engagement. I thought it was the perfect idea to flex my producing skills but also control the narrative of my own story.

What will viewers see and what will you not show? And how did you decide what level of what happens at your wedding and the pre-planning you will show?
Minnie: I have shared with my followers as much as I could possibly share with this TV project, giving them a true insight into my life on one of the most important journeys in my life.

Showing your wedding, like what we've seen with Kim Kardashian - it invites people into your personal life. How do you then strike the balance when you get interest in your personal life but don't want the public to know about certain things?
Minnie: As a media personality you are constantly taking risks and which is the best risk to take.
You reveal what you're comfortable revealing and protect what is important.
What is important to me is that I am married to someone who has no desire to be in public eye. Throughout all my narratives I need to protect and respect his views. It's no longer just about me anymore.
There isn't a right or wrong - stay true to yourself what you're comfortable doing. You cannot control people's opinions about you. Instead of showing 10 different narratives, I put together my own story, my way.
There is a significant difference between the two, The Kardashians is a reality show whereby this is a 3-part documentary - what the public will see is my journey from start to finish.

How did having cameras around change the experience? You're used to having cameramen around but did you prep family members and wedding guests on what to do or how to behave?
Minnie: Just like in every wedding there are always photographers and videographers. We made sure our camera men blended in.
It was very important for my guests not to feel like they were on a film set, but instead to show the real emotions.

Viewers have grown up watching Top Billing weddings and now Our Perfect Wedding on Mzansi Magic and have become used to a certain level of production value. How will what viewers see maybe be different or the same in terms of expectations of wedding television?
Minnie: My format is different from the other 2 productions.
In terms of the level of production it has really never been seen on South African television.
I can truly say it's world class. I worked with a team of incredible talented creatives whose brief was to go completely out of their comfort zone to create a completely new viewing experience.

What does filming your wedding for a TV special allow you to do, or for it to be that you wouldn't otherwise have been able to have?
Minnie: It allowed the happiest moment to live forever, not only in my memory but in the hearts of South Africans.

How will you describe why people should tune in and watch?
Minnie: A lot of people think they know me – what makes me happy; what makes me tick.
This is a piece of work that shows me. This also shows me thought the people that I love. It is deeply personal and deeply transparent. Even thinking about it makes me nervous, but I can't wait to share it.

■ Minnie Dlamini: Becoming Mrs. Jones, starts on Friday 13 October at 19:30 on VUZU AMP (DStv 103).

Tropika Island of Treasure Seychelles on SABC3: Presenter Minnie Dlamini dishes on being in a bikini while games master Jonathan Boynton-Lee calls it his 'nicest shoot ever'.

Minnie Dlamini says being in a bikini the whole time while filming Tropika Island of Treasure Seychelles was different from any TV work she's done before, while games master Jonathan Boynton-Lee says it was his "nicest shoot ever".

The telly twosome are centrestage in the Seychelles from tonight at 19:30 on SABC3 when the 7th season, after last week's first episode introducing the various contestants, kicks off with the first episode and first challenge filmed in the Indian Ocean archipelago.

Presenting Tropika Island of Treasure Seychelles "was a lot of hard work," Minnie Dlamini tells TVwithThinus.

"We were shooting every single day, very, very long hours so it was a lot of work but it was very rewarding. I really can't wait for everyone to see the show."

She said this show was different from other TV gigs "because first of all I'm in a bikini the whole time - that was different. But it was also a lot of fun to just be in such a great environment. It was like holiday shooting - beautiful sunsets, incredible beaches, incredible scenery."

"One of the things about this season is that the consumer contestants [who each compete with a celebrity contestant] are stars in their own right," says Minnie Dlamini. "People are going to fall in love with them."

"There's always twists in this show. Your firm favourites to win might not become your favourites towards the middle of the season - a lot of surprise eliminations, and of course a lot of surprises - it's going to be a good show".

Jonathan Boynton-Lee who is the games master -a new role and element this season - tells TVwithThinus that although viewers will see a beautiful show they won't realise how much hard work actually goes into it to make it look beautiful.

"It's long hours and people don't see all of the hard work that goes in behind-the-scenes; the massive number of crew getting the shots and the 10 cameramen and the sound guys and the directors and everyone setting up the games."

"We had a crew of over 50 people there and the amount of work and dedication that goes into the show is crazy."

"This really is going to be the most epic season. These games were so well designed that there's never a point during the competition where you could say this or that team is going to take the challenge - all of them are the perfect balance of physical and mental - and that is what makes for great television".

He said being on the Seychelles was "the nicest shoot ever. I was living on a tropical island for three weeks. It was awesome. It's like being stranded on an island - but in luxury. It was definitely a highlight of my career so far doing Tropika Island of Treasure Seychelles."

Cool theme song
In another first, Tropika Island of Treasure Seychelles has a theme song, sung by the celebrity contestants Karlien van Jaarsveld, Emtee and Anga Makubalo (NaakMusiQ) in a 3-way collaboration. "It was a great experience and turned out even better than what we even hoped for," Karlien van Jaarsveld told TVwithThinus.

"Originally it would have been just a short theme song for the show specifically, but now it's being used as a full song that people can download with the proceeds from the song sold on iTunes and Google Play going to the Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa (CHOC).

"It's amazing for me how incredibly talented Emtee is," says Karlien van Jaarsveld. "They said they wanted a rap influence within the song. Emtee literally went and sat outside for 5 minutes, wrote a rap, and that's the very rap infused melody that's incorporated into the song. Very, very talented."

Contestant chemistry
Miantha Padayachee, Tropika brand group manager says "we've really upped the stakes for the 7th season".

"We interviewed over 3 000 people and found out lucky 7 consumer contestants. I think the most amazing thing for me is to see how the celebrity contestants form friendships with the consumer contestants."

"While we were in the Seychelles filming, I knew that we were filming a world-class show".

Hamilton Ngubo, SABC3 programme manager, said that "at SABC3 we're really excited. This season on SABC3 comes as we're launching new shows in April. We're looking forward to seeing the chemistry between the celebrities and the consumer contestants".

Minnie Dlamini joins SuperSport and Mzansi Magic; will present shows across SuperSport on DStv, as well as a new lifestyle show on Mzansi Magic.

Minnie Dlamini has joined SuperSport and Mzansi Magic as a presenter after dumping the SABC and will soon present a new lifestyle and entertainment show on Mzansi Magic, co-produced by SuperSport.

In October 2016 Minnie Dlamini gave the SABC a week's notice that she's done presenting SoccerZone on SABC1 with the show that's been seeing a viewership drop.

Minnie Dlamini will however still appear on the South African public broadcaster in March when she pop up as the presenter of the 7th season of Clover's advertiser-funded production (AFP) Tropika Island of Treasure moving from SABC1 to SABC3.

Minnie Dlamini has become the latest of former SABC on-air talent, like Carol Tshabalala and others, who've jettisoned the public broadcaster to move over to more substantial and higher prestige TV productions on South African pay-television.

The 26-year old will present on several SuperSport shows broadcast across MultiChoice's DStv satellite pay-TV platform including Love PSL and Super Diski, besides an entertainment lifestyle show, co-produced by SuperSport, for Mzansi Magic (DStv 161).

Minnie Dlamini already played host of the PSL Awards for several years and made appearances in M-Net and Mzansi Magic shows like The Wild and Rockville.

"The World of Champions family is very happy to welcome Minnie," says Gideon Khobane, SuperSport CEO.

"She's a dynamic person who numbers among the country's top movers and shakers. She's plugged into the lifestyle of sport and will be able to tell those stories in her own inimitable fashion".

"Sport is part of my DNA," says Minnie Dlamini in a statement about joining SuperSport.

"I couldn't be happier right now than to be a part of such an incredible leading international brand like SuperSport. Exciting times ahead."

Minnie Dlamini turns Tropika's TV paradise into hell as conflict erupts in the Seychelles after presenter discovers producers' plan to give her a co-host.

Presenter Minnie Dlamini has turned Tropika's TV paradise into living hell for the producers with her alleged diva demands and fighting in front of the contestants.

The advertiser-funded show's upcoming season on SABC3 started filming last week in the Seychelles.

Minnie Dlamini abruptly resigned as the co-presenter on SABC1's SoccerZone two weeks ago after jetting off to the Seychelles to present Clover's revived Tropika Island of Treasure.

The show is filming its 7th season and will jump from SABC1 to SABC3 when it is broadcast in March 2017, courting a more upmarket and sophisticated consumer audience.

Sunday World reports that the embattled Tropika Island of Treasure producers went as far as eventually reaching out to the SABC to try and salvage the situation when Minnie Dlamini allegedly refused to come to an agreement over production issues that threatened to shipwreck the show running on a very tight production schedule.

Sponsor Clover, running the revived TV show under its Tropika brand, and the producers allegedly became fed up with Minnie Dlamini's diva demands.

Already on a tight production budget, the show's producers bristled when Minnie Dlamini demanded that her entourage accompany her to the Seychelles a day before she was supposed to fly from South Africa to the island paradise. She wanted her own stylist and social media team to go with her as well.

Minnie Dlamini allegedly went ballistic in the Seychelles when she found out that the Tropika Island of Treasure producers had decided to tweak the show format and add a co-presenter.

The production earlier this year announced that Jonathan Boynton-Lee, a presenter on SABC3's Top Billing will be brought in in the new role of Games Master on the 7th season of Tropika Island of Treasure who will encourage and talk the various teams through the challenges that will include physical and mental puzzles.

Minnie Dlamini had no problem with that.

She was however angered when she discovered, after arriving in the Seychelles, that Cardova Productions wanted to add a full co-presenter with whom she would have to share the spotlight.

Conflict erupted since Minnie Dlamini who co-hosted on SoccerZone, doesn't want a co-presenter.

In a statement Minnie Dlamini says "Cardova and Tropika offered me the sole hosting position of the upcoming season which I signed on for. I specifically asked not to be considered if they were looking for two presenters."

"The last minute they wanted to introduce a co-host which I refused as per the initial agreement. There was conflict on the island as a result," says Minnie Dlamini.

According to the producers Minnie Dlamini got her way to take her own hair stylist along to the Seychelles but the request for a social media team was axed since the show already organised social media people to document the activities.

Minnie Dlamini dumps the SABC's SABC Sport saying 'I need to grow'; replaced by Vaylen Kirtley as co-presenter on SABC1's SoccerZone.

Minnie Dlamini has dumped the SABC's SABC Sport division and has been replaced by Vaylen Kirtley.

On Thursday last week Minenhle "Minnie" Dlamini resigned from SABC Sport where she presented SoccerZone on SABC1 since May 2013, causing the SABC to rush to find a replacement as co-presenter opposite Thomas Mlambo for Monday night.

SoccerZone's ratings has fallen and a revamp with a new format introduced at the beginning of the year failed to lure back viewers.

Minnie Dlamini will however be seen on SABC television again as one of the presenters of the revived Tropika Island of Treasure Seychelles in March 2017 on SABC3.

"SABC Sport would like to thank her for a meaningful contribution to the division during her tenure and we wish her well in her future endeavours," said the SABC in a statement.

In a statement Minnie Dlamini said "I have resigned from SABC Sport to focus on my other business ventures".

"I have loved my time with the SABC Sport family and will miss them dearly. It pains me to realise that I won't be seeing my Thom Thom (Thomas Mlambo) and Dr Mnandi every Monday as they have become family."

"I need to grow and explore various opportunities in entertainment and business. "I'm super excited about 2017 and working very hard to make it a success."

Clover revives Tropika Island of Treasure for a 7th season as the advertiser-funded show jumps from SABC1 to SABC3; returns celebrity contestants.

The Island of Treasure advertiser-funded show is returning for a 7th season and is now looking for contestants as its switches from SABC1 to SABC3.

The show, known for its bad production values over the years, reached its bottom with the 5th season in February 2013 when the SABC and Clover went ahead with the tasteless broadcast starting two days after Reeva Steenkamp who was a celebrity contestant in the show, was brutally shot and killed by the paralympic athlete, Oscar Pistorius.

A forgettable and very badly done 6th season followed that had no celebrities.

Now the brand campaign show is trying again, switching away from SABC1 to SABC3's more upmarket audience, returning celebrities who will take part with members of the public, upping the production values with a new production company, adding creative changes and increasing the season episode order to 13.

I requested publicity and marketing images from the Clover produced show but days later after the PR company told me there isn't any and will send when they're available, basically what there appear to be available is the show logo for the upcoming Seychelles season.

Minnie Dlamini will be the presenter of the new 7th season of Tropika Island of Treasure set to be filmed in October in the Seychelles, with Top Billing presenter Jonathan Boynton-Lee in a new role as the "Games Master" who will encourage and talk the various teams through the challenges that will include physical and mental puzzles.

The celebrity contestants for the 7th season include Siv Ngesi, Zakeeya Patel, Maurice Paige, Karlien van Jaarsveld, EmTee, Anga Makubalo and Jessica Nkosi.

"We are so excited about the new season of Tropika Island of Treasure Seychelles," says Miantha Padayachee, brand group manager for Tropika.

People have to buy the fruit juice between July and September for the packaging barcode in order to be able to enter, and indicate what celebrity they want to team up with.

After that the celebrity contestants will choose the member of the public they want to try and win the competition with, as the seven different teams compete against each other in the Seychelles.
