The Oprah Winfrey Show is coming back ... as a podcast.

Oprah Winfrey is giving the world what they need -  a chance to re-experience, or enjoy for the first time, episodes of her long-running TV talk show which is rolling out as podcast episodes from 3 March.

"Oprah is opening the vault - 25 years of legendary interviews, A-ha moments, ugly cries and unforgettable surprises," a video promo notes.



Ten episodes from the 4 500 episode archive will be made available from 3 March followed by a new episode from the Harpo vaults released weekly.

The initial episodes that will revolve around special guests like Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz and the financial guru Suze Orman who all got their start on Oprah's couch and will touch on topics ranging from drug addiction and divorce to weight-loss and race relations.

"As we head into a new decade, it’s a great time for fans of The Oprah Winfrey Show to revisit the joy, laughter and inspiration that kept us all tuning in daily for 25 years," says Tina Perry, OWN president, in a statement.

"The Oprah Winfrey Show The Podcast is the perfect opportunity to look back and reflect, take stock of how we've grown and to be reminded that we're all in this together."

Oprah Winfrey back in South Africa in January 2012 for a very special event - the graduation ceremony of her first class of matric girls.

Oprah Winfrey will jet in to South Africa again in January 2012 for a very special event with a dress she specifically chose and kept for the upcoming occasion five years ago already.

The talk show host who now runs her Oprah Winfrey Network or OWN TV channel in America and who received an educational honourary degree from the Free State University this year, will be back again in January for a special graduation ceremony of her first class of girls to pass matric at The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls at Henley-on-Klip.

Oprah Winfrey who continues to pump millions of her own money into her school, has decided to also pay for the tertiary education of her students. While some have received bursaries, Winfrey is footing the bill for the 72 girls finishing high school this year. All of the school's first matric class will go on to tertiary study at acclaimed universities and colleges across America while a few chose to study in South Africa.

''I know this whether you're a government or just a person: when you invest in a girl, you change a community,'' Oprah Winfrey told Sheryl Lansberg, COO of the social network Facebook in a televised and online interview in September.

While The Oprah Winfrey Show is in the last of its repeat run on SABC3, the webcasts on her Facebook page that can be watched any time, has attracted such a huge following that it's been added to her TV channel to help boost viewership for the struggling channel.

Meanwhile her new talk show, Oprah's Next Chapter will also start in January on OWN as a series of on-location interviews with thought leaders and celebrities.

About the webcasts Oprah Winfrey says ''people are acting and interacting with us at the same time. It's just a fantastic experience. I'm going to build on the success of the connection the the web response so I'm really excited about it.''

The October issue of O The Oprah Magazine has an incredible 26 page Commemorative Section that's a fantastic tribute to the TV show.

If you like The Oprah Winfrey Show (SABC3, weekdays, 17:30) you have to get your hands on the October issue of O The Oprah Magazine for a absolutely incredible Official Commemoratative Section any longtime viewer of the show will love.

(Programming note: And SABC3 just changed their line-up and will now be showing the Surprise Oprah A Farewell Spectacular Part II episode of Oprah today, Thursday, 29 September and the very final episode tomorrow, Friday 30 September at 17:30. It will be the first time these series capping episodes are going out in the regular 17:30 timeslot on SABC3 after the primetime broadcast in July. From next week The Oprah Winfrey Show also moves to 14:50).

The only magazine I absolutely buy religiously and have basically every single copy of is Men's Health, but earlier this week I also bought the October issue of O The Oprah Magazine that just went on sale. It said ''200 Pages Biggest Issue Ever!'' and media junkie me wanted to see how the content looked and changed because of more pages. I'll store this must-see issue next to my other selection of magazines that paid tribute to various TV shows in a perfect way in its pages.

Surprise, surprise in this October O Magazine was the jaw-dropping 26 pages Commemorative Section and beautifully done magazine content that enhances/supplements the TV show. If only more magazines were able to do things like this, this well. Two magazines tried similar exercises earlier this year, this O Magazine special section is better than both of those and an immersive read.

The special section in the October issue of O Magazine has intriguing diary excepts and photos of it, great photos, unforgettable moments with photos, the first producers looking back to the early years, biggest mistakes, best lessons, stories that moved the world, biggest revelations on the talk show over the years, the stars, the dream team of fellow talk show stars she assembled over the years and the other famous experts, make-overs, the Australia visit, the final season's big moments and more.

Quite amazing, and a brilliant tribute to a TV show in a magazine that's really, really well done. If you see and read and page through it, you'll see what I mean.

Having been a news editor at a magazine I know from arduous first-hand experience what it takes to put special pages and sections like this together and what it takes to do it right and make it look right, and these incredibly beautiful pages were done right.

Oprah Winfrey on her South African school, educating girls, and charity work: 'It's like looking into the face of who I used to be.'

Oprah Winfrey says people can easily feel ''overwhelmed'' by charity work and community service but should ''not be confused by the voices of the world telling you what you're supposed to do'' and focus on what you are able to do and give.

The talk show host of The Oprah Winfrey Show (SABC3, weekdays, 17:30) in a new interview that was streamed on Facebook with Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg talked about her South African school, The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls (OWLA) and talked about how investing in a girl changes communities. ''Investing in a girl changes not the face of one person but at least 5 people. And if that girl goes into her community, you've affected an entire community,'' she said.

Oprah Winfrey gave a one hour interview to Sheryl Sandberg in front of Facebook employees and which was streamed on Facebook. ''What lessons could you teach governments about investing in girls?'' asked Sheryl Sandberg.

''I have 400 girls at my Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa. The first graduating class will be at the end of this year. Im so proud of my daughters. They call me Mom Oprah,'' Oprah Winfrey said. ''This first class and 2nd class - I actually went out and handpicked every one of those girls, going village to village and to province after province. I know this whether you're a government or a just person: when you invest in a girl, you change a community.''

''When you invest in a girl, a girl – unlike boys, not to disparate men – girls are far more likely in every study ever been done, if a woman or girl is educated she is going to educate her children. If she's educated she's far more likely to have fewer children, she's more likely to use protection, she's more likely to take care of herself and her children. She's going to take what she's learnt and share that with her entire community. Investing in a girl changes not the face of one person but at least 5 people. And if that girl goes into her community you've affected an entire community.''

Oprah Winfrey said ''people get very overwhelmed. The way of being of service is answering the call for yourself: What is it that you want to do and what is it that you want to give? Not to be confused by the voices of the world telling you what you're supposed to do.''

''If you are going to try and help Africa for example, you can become completely overwhelmed. You don't know where to begin; there never is an end to all the help that you can do. Focus on what you can do. For me it was education. I knew as a coloured girl - now African-American - that without an education I wouldn't be who I am.''

''I wanted to give back what I've been given. I advise other people to do what relates to you. Do what stimulates you. Giving to girls is what stimulates me. It's like looking into the face of who I used to be and now seeing what they can become. Investing in a girl is the best thing I think that you can do,'' said Oprah Winfrey.

Oprah's final episode nervousness - and the post show parties and VIP reception which took place that you don't know about.

For the first time the secrets are revealed about what really happened behind the scenes and after the conclusion of the very final episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Oprah Winfrey is now revealing the moment when she started to feel nervous and emotional during the final episode. And what viewers don't know is that there was a VIP post show reception she didn't know about, as well as a massive staff party the next day she threw for her loyal Harpo staff.

The Oprah Show is still running on weekday afternoons in South Africa but concluded with its last three episodes at the end of May in America. Those last three episodes was also quickly scheduled and shown in primetime in South Africa in June. In Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes – the documentary reality show on Winfrey's OWN TV channel that's revealing what really went on behind the scenes – just gave the final episode a special three episode treatment. This show is now lifting the lid on what actually happened during the last episode and immediately after it.

During the finale when it was just Oprah Winfrey talking to the audience, the Harpo building was basically empty, with only a few producers not working on the actual episode, gathering together for champagne and two separate viewing parties in two empty, packed-up offices. Rosie O'Donnell and her production team is now going to use the Harpo studio for her new talk show on OWN.

''I wasn't having butterflies,'' reveals Oprah Winfrey while she was getting her hair and make-up done for the finale and was listening to Aretha Franklin on her iPad singing Amazing Grace. Meanwhile her friend Gayle King who brought her daughter Kirby along, was filming Oprah Winfrey with her cellphone camera while Oprah's boyfriend Stedman Graham sat silently holding her hand. ''It's not a funeral is it?'' he asked, to which Oprah Winfrey just said, ''No'' and laughed.

BREAKING. In a stunning SABC3 timeslot change, Days of Our Lives to take over Oprah timeslot from October as multiple shows must move.

I can exclusively break the news I've been working on for weeks which is that, in a stunning shake-up of programming at SABC3, the American soap Days of Our Lives is set to inherit the timeslot of The Oprah Winfrey Show from October when a massive cascading timeslot change comes into effect on the SABC3 schedule - meaning major changes also affecting shows such as All My Children, Three Talk, Dr Oz and even Isidingo and Top Billing.

I can reveal that from Monday 3 October Days of Our Lives - currently at 16:30 and perenially the most popular SABC3 show viewership wise - will move to 17:40 on weekdays pushing Oprah out (althought the midnight repeat of Oprah remains).

In a major change All My Children will move from 09:30 to 14:00 and will be followed by The Oprah Winfrey Show at 14:50 - it's new timeslot until December when the show ends its repeat cycle. This pushes Dr Oz, currently at 14:30, later to its brand-new timeslot on SABC3 of 15:45 from October. Dr Oz will also be on SABC1 from Tuesdays to Fridays from October at 10:30.

This cascade effect means that Three Talk with Noeleen Maholwana-Sangqu currently at 15:30 on weekday afternoons will also be moving - an hour later on SABC3 from 3 October to 16:40. It will be followed by Days of Our Lives at 17:40.

Here's basically what's going to happen if I colour code and roughly time-correlate what SABC3 is going to do from October:

The Freedom Riders unite for a very emotional show on Thursday (18 August) when this group of people who made a public statement in America 50 years ago, all reunite on the Oprah stage half a century later.

Friday (19 August) features Oprah's Ultimate Weight Loss finale with amazing transformations of people who've shed the fat and reveal the secrets of how they've done it.

The 25th and final ''Farewell Season'' of The Oprah Winfrey might be finishing soon on SABC3 but the talk show isn't going anywhere - I can reveal that Oprah will stay put in the weekday 17:30 timeslot right into December on SABC3 that will start running ''The Best of Oprah'' episodes from the current season.

The late night repeat slot of 00:50 on SABC3 of the day's Oprah episode will also remain for several more months. The 17:30 timeslot on SABC3 will remain Oprah territory for at least another five months.

The final episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show this past Thursday on SABC3 at 19:30 clicked with viewers who tuned in in droves to say a final goodbye. The final hour clocked a fitting farewell rating with an impressive South African viewership that showed up for the queen of talk's TV show swansong.

The final Oprah episode as well as the preceding two parter ''Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular'' were moved to SABC3's primetime Thursday night slot in July. The queen of talk created an impressive viewership jump for the SABC's only commercial television channel in the tough Thursday night timeslot.

The Oprah Winfrey Show finale on SABC3 on Thursday night pulled a 2,5 AR in total viewership, or 911 103 viewers for the hour - higher than the average of 2,2 ARs for the channel's usual viewership in the competitive hour. The Oprah swansong also scored a 6,6% share - the number of TV sets in total tuned to a specific TV channel - compared to the monthly average share for the timeslot on SABC3 which is 5,9%.

After her very recent visit to South Africa and Bloemfontein to receive a honourary education degree  Oprah Winfrey is set to return to South Africa shortly to become a high school teacher at her very own private girls' school, The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls where she will be teaching the course ''Life 101'' before her first matric class go off to ivy-league American institutions to study there next year.

The talk show host of The Oprah Winfrey Show (SABC3, weekdays, 17:30) reveals in an email to fans that that she will be back around September in South Africa and her Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls to teach a class called Life 101 and to instill in ''her girls'' all the life lessons she wished someone had passed on to her as a young girl.

''Should be fun since I love to teach. And they're like sponges,'' writes Oprah Winfrey. ''Like 12th graders everywhere, this first class is both anxious and excited about going to college. Most will be the first in their family. So it's a very big deal for them, and they're feeling the pressure.''

''When Chris Rock was last on the show he said, 'real wealth is having options'. I thought that was pretty profound. I now stress to my girls that education prepares you to have options. Without it you have none.''

Talking about her girls that she will be paying for to attend top notch American tertiary institutions of their choice to hopefully return to South Africa one day, Oprah Winfrey says, ''they were all stressed for tests,but doing fine. No major crisis this trip. I love being with them and talking to them about all things important. When I'm there I'm talking from the time I get up till I go to bed, about everything teenage girls are going through. It's the same all over the world."

Part II of The Oprah Winfrey Show subtitled ''Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular'' - the penultimate episode of the talk show, is broadcast tonight at 19:30 on SABC3.

FACT CHECK: O my word. Talk is cheap - even about The Oprah Show - but SABC3 should really get the facts right.

SABC3's marketing manager Risuna Mayimele made a few embarrasing mistakes talking about Oprah at the channel's screening of the final Oprah Winfrey Show at the Hyatt in Johannesburg.

In attendance were Basetsana Kumalo, Rosie Motene, Anele Mdoda, Keketso Semoko and Sonia Sedibe amongst others. An insider with knowledge of the event tells me SABC3 asked Oprah Winfrey to please work in a once day visit to Johannesburg while she was visiting Bloemfontein in South Africa (of course to be at this event) but she of course refused.

''Today's event is so significant,'' said Risuna Mayimele to SABC3's Top Billing who spoke about the show at the event.  ''It's one of those historic moments in television. We've been so lucky as SABC3 to broadcast Oprah since 1996. In fact we're the only broadcaster in Africa that has broadcasted Oprah.''

Whoo. Embarrasssing.

In September 1998 e.tv actually stole The Oprah Winfrey Show away from SABC3 for a few years. The Oprah Winfrey Show then went back to SABC3 only in 2005, so e.tv at least have definitely broadcast Oprah. Could there be more? Of course.

The M-Net East as well as the M-Net West channels in Africa has the current and final season of The Oprah Winfrey Show too, at this very moment, and had the show for a number of years. Then there's the local terrestrial broadcasters in African countries that has the show as well.

The Oprah Winfrey Show is watched in Africa [excluding South Africa] in Algeria, Angola, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central Africa Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Gabon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Lesotho, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Marocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Zambia, Zanzibar and Zimbabwe.

I can exclusively break the news that the first episode of the 3 part Oprah Winfrey Show finale on SABC3 that the channel moved into primetime at 19:30 on Thursdays (and which started this past Thursday) almost doubled the viewership of the timeslot with a massive surge in share as well.

Part I of Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular (followed this Thursday at 19:30 with Part II and the final Oprah Winfrey Show on Thursday 14 July) created a primetime viewership tsunami for SABC3.

In the super tough Thursday primetime 19:32 hour The Oprah Winfrey Show pulled an incredibly impressive 4,9 audience rating (AR) (all adults 15+). That translates to a massive 1,365 million viewers in South Africa for the show. Compare this 4,9 AR viewership figure with a rating of 2,6 AR on SABC3 in the same timeslot the previous week (23 June), and the monthly average of 2,2 ARs for the preceding four weeks. Oprah basically almost doubled the viewership in the SABC3 timeslot in one swell swoop.

The share - the number of total TV sets in households tuned to a specific show on a specific TV channel - also made an incredible jump from 6,6% the previous week (23 June) to a massive 13,7% share last Thursday for Part I. (The monthly average share for the timeslot on SABC3 is 5,9%.) It means that the share - the number of TV sets tuned to SABC3 - more than doubled for Oprah in primetime.

Because the final 3 Oprah episodes that SABC3 moved into primetime are staggered (meaning they build on each other - Part I leads into Part II as the continuation and conclusion of the same recorded event, and then the very final episode) the great news for the channel is that the Oprah viewership can only continue to grow. Even more terrific record-setting ratings are expected as existing viewers not only come back for the next two episodes, but further viewers are lured to the TV moment must-see spectacle.

BREAKING. Oprah Winfrey receives honourary degree from University of the Free State; calls transformation there ''a miracle''.

It's ''a miracle'' and ''truly what the new South Africa is all about.''

So said media icon Oprah Winfrey when the teary talk show host of The Oprah Winfrey Show (SABC3, weekdays, 17:30) received an honourary doctorate's degree in education from the University of the Free State (UFS) and spoke about the transformation taking place at the tersiary institution that's been plagued with racial scandals the past few years and known as a hotbed for troubled race relations [full disclosure: The place is my alma mater. I studied there for 6 years and attained my degrees there].

The event in the Callie Human Hall was attended by 4 500 students and citizens in Bloemfontein. Oprah Winfrey was praised for her contribution towards education in South Africa. It's her first honourary doctorate's degree awarded to her outside America. She praised the tertiary institution that was plagued by racial scandals for being serious about transformation. She left shortly afterwards.

''What has happened here at Free State in terms of racial reconciliation, of peace, of harmony, of one heart understanding and opening itself to another heart is nothing short of a miracle. It is truly what the new South Africa is all about,'' Oprah Winfrey said.

In bestowing her the honourary degree - the 152th awarded by the UFS - a passage drew cheers when read: that Winfrey has ''truly become a South African. She did so because she believed that there was important work to be done here, and she wanted to be part of what Nelson Mandela and others had begun." Previous recipients of honorary degrees from the UFS include anti-apartheid icons Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Oprah Winfrey and the American first lady Michelle Obama who was also in South Africa this week, had dinner together on Tuesday in Johannesburg.

Oprah Winfrey wants to interview O.J. Simpson - but on the condition that he admits on television that he killed Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. O.J. Simpson was famously acquitted in October 1995 in the tawdry ''trial of the century'' court case that became a tabloid sensation, but now Oprah Winfrey wants the former American football star to admit to the world that he did it.

''I have a dream of O.J. Simpson confessing to me," Oprah Winfrey said to delegates from the pay TV industry in America at the 16th Annual Cable Show in Chicago as the crowd roared with approval. The Los Angeles Times' business section was first with the news.

Oprah Winfrey (The Oprah Winfrey Show, weekdays, SABC3, 17:30) is now focusing all her attention on her TV channel OWN, and spoke to the industry on her plans for the channel and who she would like to interview on OWN when she starts doing some kind of new talk show on the channel.

She said talking to O.J. Simpson wouldn't just be ''an interview'' but that it would be conditional on him confessing on television to killing his former wife. ''I don't just want the interview. I want the interview on the condition that you are ready, Mr. Simpson," Oprah Winfrey said. "And I am going to make that happen, people."

She said ''the vacation that I thought I was going to have [after the end of The Oprah Show] is kind of over ... at least for the time being'' as she's hard at work looking at the programming of OWN.

Oprah Winfrey of The Oprah Winfrey Show [weekdays, SABC3, 17:30] recently helped the girls of her private school in South Africa, the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls at Henley-on-Klip, with their very first matric farewell since the first class is in grade 12 this year. She says she wants them to feel like they're ''princesses''.

''Over the years one of the things that I've loved the most is being able to bring joy to people. When you see the faces of girls getting matric farewell dresses - I just went through this in South Africa with my girls going to the matric farewell for the first time - I know how a dress, some lipstick, some blush, a pair of shoes can change what you think of yourself,'' she reveals in Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes.

''Put them on for the first time and you believe that you too can be a princess in the world. You begin to see yourself differently, you begin to see the possibilities,'' says Oprah Winfrey. ''The message is that dreams can come true for everybody.''
