I can exclusively be first with the breaking news I've worked on for weeks that SABC1 has decided to move its longtime American soap The Bold and the Beautiful into the total cutthroat killer soap zone of 18:30 on weekdays from October.
TV with Thinus can exclusively reveal the insider scoop that this change is part of a massive programming shake-up that will see The Bold and the Beautiful swop timeslots on weekdays with the SABC1 programming strand of local magazine shows that will all be moving to 18:00 from October - while SABC3 is moving its local soap Isidingo to 19:30 on weekdays from October.
SABC1 which is sitting on the news, has not officially announced The Bold and the Beautiful massive timeslot change yet, which insiders at both channels tell me exclusively co-incides with the as massive news that Isidingo will vacate the gruelling killer 18:30 timeslot. ''The SABC is in essence replacing one soap at 18:30 with another, hoping that the one [Bold] will get a greater share at 18:30 when more people are home, and that the other one [Isidingo] will get a greater share even later when there's less competition,'' a source tells me.
SABC insiders tell me exclusively that the feeling within the SABC is that Isidingo can no longer effectively compete in the tough 18:30 timeslot against other channel's highly popular soaps and that the public broadcaster believes that the soap can do better at 19:30 when its out of the way of what e.tv, DStv and even SABC1 is offering. Of course the new timeslot will also help when The Bold and the Beautiful then later moves from SABC1 to SABC3 and is already in the right timeslot - but just switches channels.
''Instead of having SABC2's 7de Laan and SABC3's Isidingo both battle it out as local soaps at 18:30 against each other and against the strong other soaps of rivals, there will be just one local and one international soap at 18:30 and then another local soap later in the evening where more viewers can see it and have shown they want to rather watch it,'' another insider whispers with close knowledge of the pending moves.
Meanwhile I can reveal that SABC1 execs plan to move Real Goboza from Saturdays at 18:00 to Tuesdays at 19:00 while Dance Your Butt Off will park on Saturdays at 17:30. Skeem Saam is a new local drama (hopefully!) starting in October on SABC1 while Zoned will be a new reality magazine show starting on Tuesdays at 18:00.
I can also reveal that Dr Oz - similar to how The Tyra Banks Show trailed on SABC1 although it was a SABC3 show - will also start on SABC1 in a similar way from October going out on SABC1 from Tuesdays to Fridays at 10:30.
