Ewan Strydom returns to SABC3’s Expresso after 3 years: ‘I missed that rush of live TV’.

by Thinus Ferreira

After exiting SABC3 in April 2019 to appear on kykNET for the past three years, Ewan Strydom is back at Expresso as a TV presenter saying that he missed the rush of live TV.

Ewan Strydom who lives in Blouberg and turns 40 on 8 March, will now appear simultaneously on two TV channels - in the mornings on SABC3's breakfast show produced by Cardova Productions in Tokai, Cape Town; as well as on Sunday evenings on Bravo! on kykNET (DStv 144), which is produced by Homebrew Films in Montague Gardens.

Ewan Strydom made his surprise Expresso return on Wednesday 8 February last week. It happened without any fanfare and no press release like when the disgraced relationship cheater Katlego Maboe unexpectedly returned to Expresso in August 2022 after two years with a sit-down on-camera interview.

kykNET confirms to TVwithThinus that Ewan Strydom remains part of the presenter team of the Sunday night Afrikaans celebrity profile magazine show Bravo!, the series he left Expresso for three years ago.

Last year, Ewan Strydom who is married to Adrienn (38) and has two sons Kèan (9) and Dominic (6), was also the presenter of the first season of the Afrikaans reality competition show Plaasjapie on kykNET.

Ewan Strydom tells TVwithThinus that "the best way to describe being back is 'refreshing'. I have missed my feel-good family tremendously, and that rush of live TV."

"After nearly 3 years, a lot has changed. I grew in so many ways, yet returning to Expresso, I feel familiarity….and I'm excited. Stepping back onto the Expresso studio floor brings back so many feel-good memories, and I'm looking forward to making a lot more."

Patience Stevens, producer, says "We are delighted to welcome back Ewan Strydom as a regular presenter on Expresso on S3. Viewer response has been very positive – with the comments being that it is as if Ewan had never left, and how seamless and natural it is to have him back on the show again."

In Expresso return, Katlego Maboe reveals he had 'thought the darkest thoughts'.

by Thinus Ferreira

Crying and wiping tears away in an interview in front of the cameras and broadcast early on Monday morning, the disgraced presenter Katlego Maboe now returning to SABC3's Expresso, revealed that he had suicidal thoughts, saying he had "thought the darkest thoughts".

Katlego Maboe became embroiled in a cheating scandal in October 2020 when a video surfaced in which he admitted to his girlfriend and mother of his son, Monique Muller that he had cheated on her and had sex with another woman.

Monique Muller alleged that Katlego Maboe gave her a sexually-transmitted disease (STD) and "damaged her womb", affecting the chances of her having another child, and had "physically attacked" her.

After that Katlego Maboe lost his work at Cardova TV and disappeared from television, including TV commercials, following his infidelity scandal, with Monique Muller who got a protection order against Maboe.

Monique Muller who made claims of domestic abuse, sought to make the protection order permanent, but in January 2022 the magistrate set the protection order aside.

It's still unclear if the SABC, which was asked, will be doing an interview with Monique Muller on Expresso on SABC3 as well for the same time duration to tell her side of the story, with comment which will be added here if received.

Meanwhile, the gender-based violence NGO Women for Change slammed SABC3 and Expresso for reappointing Katlego Maboe as presenter, saying "This is how Expresso celebrates Women's Day" in an Instagram Story with the NGO which added that its legal battle against Katlego is still in court proceedings.

On Monday morning, Katlego Maboe got hugs on-air from Expresso presenters Ryle De Morny, Zoë Brown and Graeme Richards, with the edition which was short of specific questions about the scandal, and was framed around a redemption story and Katlego Maboe's growth and self-actualisation and what he has learnt from the situation he suddenly found himself in almost two years ago.

In the sit-down interview recorded on the Expresso-set in Tokai, Cape Town last week, Katlego Maboe said "I'm not perfect at all" and said "I just had to face myself and had to come to terms with that flawed person that I am".

"There was a moment where I thought the darkest thoughts and I don't want to belabour the point too much. I think everyone goes through their own individual trials and you think: 'But wouldn't it be better if it was just done?' and then my family wouldn't have to worry about having to call me every day."

Katlego Maboe to return to SABC3's Expresso as a presenter after cheating scandal with sit-down interview.

by Thinus Ferreira

SABC3 and the channel's morning show Expresso produced by Cardova has roped Katlego Maboe back in who will make his reappearance on Monday 8 August after he exited the morning show following a scandal when he admitted to his then-girlfriend that he had cheated on her with another woman.

Katlego Maboe will do a sit-down interview with Expresso co-presenter Graeme Richards on Monday 8 August to talk about the scandal and what happened since a recording leaked of him in October 2020 when he admitted to his girlfriend at the time that he had sex with another woman.

Katlego Maboe admitted in the video to his ex-girlfriend and mother of his child, Monique Muller, that he cheated on her and had sex with another woman, after which he lost work and disappeared from television, including TV commercials, following his infidelity scandal.

Monique Muller alleged that Katlego Maboe gave her a sexually-transmitted disease (STD) and "damaged her womb", affecting the chances of her having another child.

In another video Monique said that Katlego Maboe allegedly physically abused her as well, saying that "When the first physical attack happened I got a protection order against him".

Expresso says Katlego Maboe in his sit-down interview to herald his return to South African television "will be in conversation with Graeme Richards in what promises to be an emotional sit-down as Katlego unpacks the challenging journey he has been on over the past two years and how he got back to himself".

In a prepared statement Katlego Maboe says "It truly is difficult to put into words what I feel at the moment - being back to the place I called home for a decade".

"I'm filled with so much gratitude for all those who have been supportive and encouraging throughout this journey and I'm looking forward to having the opportunity, once again, to help an incredible team deliver an inspiring show to our people."

Patience Stevens, Cardova TV managing director, in the statement says "Domestic violence is a serious problem in our society, and one which Cardova as a company stands strongly against. We are relieved that the legal process has run its course and that Katlego has cleared himself in court of such allegations. He is a rare talent and we are very happy to be welcoming him back to Expresso"

Pat van Heerden, SABC3 channel boss, says "S3 has always viewed the allegations levelled against Mr Maboe in a serious light and we are delighted that the courts have exonerated him and he can now return to the Expresso family as the host of the show".

Katlego Maboe sues Women for Change founder Sabrina Walter for alleged defamation.

The scandal-scarred TV presenter Katlego Maboe (34) is now suing the activist against gender-based violence (GBV), Sabrina Walters, who is the founder of Women for Change, for alleged defamation.

IOL reports that the former TV star and a presenter of Expresso on SABC3 produced by Cardova Productions, has lodged a crimen injuria complaint with the South African police against Sabrina Walters of Women for Change.

Katlego Maboe admitted in a video to his ex-girlfriend and mother of his child, Monique Muller, that he cheated on her and had sex with another woman, after which he lost work and disappeared from television when he became embroiled in domestic violence allegations following his infidelity scandal.

In a statement, Katlego Maboe said that "I was unfaithful to my partner during a very important time of our lives - an act I regret to this day. We are currently undergoing an unfortunate and painful separation which is being resolved through legal proceedings".

Katlego Maboe also lost his nomination in April 2021 in the Best TV Presenter category of the National Film and Video Foundation's 15th South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs).

Earlier this month the disgraced TV presenter in new letters of demand from his lawyer, demanded R4 million from four people after saying he suffered psychological damage and damage to his reputation from the scandal that engulfed him and that led to the implosion of his career.

Katlego Maboe demanded that Monique Muller; her brother Seth; Sabrina Walter, the founder of Women for Change; as well as Dr Janet van Eeden, chairperson of the judges for the NFVF's SAFTAs each pay him R1 million in damages. They were given 3 weeks to respond.

André Johnston, Katlego Maboe's lawyer, told IOL that "A complaint of crimen injuria and criminal defamation was laid against Sabrina Walter of Women for Change. We have requested further police investigation into alleged criminal conduct following a defamatory email that was sent to the National Film and Video Foundation."

"These charges were laid based on my legal advice. I support any initiatives that seek to address inequality. However in this instance it appears to me that vile untruthful accusations were made not only with the intention to have Katlego Maboe removed as a nominee for a SAFTA but also to tarnish his image with Expresso and Cardova."

Colonel Andrè Traut, police spokesperson, confirmed that a case of crimen injuria was reported at the Muizenberg police station on Monday.

Cheating TV star Katlego Maboe demands payment of R4 million from 4 people citing reputation and psychological damage.

by Thinus Ferreira

The disgraced TV star Katlego Maboe who allegedly cheated on his wife and lost jobs like being a presenter on SABC3's Expresso and as the face of Outsurance TV commercials is now demanding R4 million from four people after saying he suffered psychological damage.

Netwerk24 first reported on Friday that Katlego Maboe, is now demanding that four people pay him R1 million each within 3 weeks.

Katlego Maboe also lost his nomination in April 2021 in the Best TV Presenter category of the National Film and Video Foundation's 15th South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs).

Katlego Maboe is reportedly demanding R1 million in damages from his former lover Monique Muller; her brother Seth; Sabrina Walters, the founder of Women for Change; as well as Dr Janet van Eeden, chairperson of the judges for the NFVF's SAFTAs.

If they don't pay him R4 million, Katlegoe Maboe will start official damage claims against them with Katlegoe Maboe claiming loss of income, psychological damage and damage to his reputation.

Andre Johnson, Katlegoe Maboe's lawyer, confirmed to Netwerk24 that lawyer letters demanding money were sent to these people.

In another video Monique said that Katlego Maboe allegedly physically abused her as well, saying that "When the first physical attack happened I got a protection order against him".

In a statement, Katlego Maboe said that "I was unfaithful to my partner during a very important time of our lives - an act I regret to this day. We are currently undergoing an unfortunate and painful separation which is being resolved through legal proceedings".

Earlier this year Katlego Maboe was nominated for a SAFTA in the category of Best TV presenter for Tropika Island of Treasure Curacao, produced by Cardova Productions.

Katlego Maboe has been removed from S3's morning show Expresso, also produced by Cardova, after shocking allegations came to light, made by his estranged wife, who said that he allegedly damaged her womb after giving her a sexually transmitted disease.

In a sensational video at the time, Katlego Maboe, dressed in a gown, sheepishly confessed to Monique about an extra-marital affair and sex with another woman, with Monique who said that that Katlego gave her a sexually-transmitted disease (STD) and damaged her womb, affecting the chances of her having another child.

Katlego Maboe admitted that he was unfaithful and had cheated on her including having sex with another woman. The estranged couple became embroiled in a protracted legal battle in court.

The embattled former morning show presenter Katlego Maboe is not returning to SABC3's Expresso.

by Thinus Ferreira

Katlego Maboe won't be back on Expresso with SABC3 saying that claims circulating on social media about the return of the channel's former presenter who is mired in scandal, are all unfounded rumours.

Katlego Maboe was arrested on 2 January for contempt of court and appeared in court on 6 January in the Goodwood Magistrate's Court in Cape Town.

It's part of an ongoing court case after the acrimonious and highly-publicised split in late-2020 between Katlego Maboe and his former lover and mother of his child, Monique Muller.

In a sensational video, Katlego Maboe, dressed in a gown, sheepishly confessed to Monique about an extra-marital affair and sex with another woman, with Monique who said that that Katlego gave her a sexually-transmitted disease (STD) and damaged her womb, affecting the chances of her having another child.

Earlier this month a "Home of Celebs" page on Facebook created a false rumour, claiming that "Katlego Maboe got a second chance. Yes, Kat is back on Expresso. After a massive fight and petitions to bring him back with gender-based violence (GBV) allegations, Mr Maboe can breathe a sigh of relief as Expresso morning show renewed his contract."

This is completely false. Cardova Productions that produces the morning show for SABC3 from its studio in Tokai has not renewed any contract with Katlego Maboe. He will definitely not be back on Expresso soon and his contract has not been renewed.

In response to a media enquiry to SABC3, Patience Stevens, owner of Cardova Productions says "the rumours circulating on social media is fake news".

Patience Stevens said that the statement that Cardova issued on 23 October 2020 still applies.

In that strongly-worded statement, Cardova Productions said that the SABC3 morning show "condemns any acts of violence and mistreatment, especially against women and children and take such allegations very seriously".

"Certain serious allegations have been posted on social media about Katlego Maboe and, last night, a video was leaked showing Katlego Maboe seemingly admitting to cheating on his partner. We have been informed that a legal process relating to the allegations is currently sub-judice."

"We condemn any acts of violence and mistreatment, especially against women and children, and therefore take such allegations very seriously. Until such time as the matter has been fully investigated, and pending the outcome, Katlego Maboe will not be appearing on The Expresso Morning Show."

Katlego Maboe arrested.

by Thinus Ferreira

Katlego Maboe has been arrested with the former Expresso presenter on SABC3 and face of Outsurance commercials who has appeared in court in the continuing case against his former lover Monique Muller.

On Sunday the Rapport newspaper reported that Katlego Maboe was arrested just after New Year's Day and appeared in court on 6 January 2021. All of the specific charges are not yet known.

Lerato Maleswena, Katlego Maboe's new publicist, told Rapport that the Monique Muller's charge is false and an attempt to harass and victimise him and to inflict emotional, reputational and economic damage.

According to the newspaper, Katlego Maboe allegedly ousted Monique Muller from the Seapoint flat in Cape Town they once shared before the shattering of their relationship and also stopped paying full rent.

The newspaper also reports that a complaint has been laid against Katlego Maboe's lawyer, Ellen Louise at South Africa's Legal Practice Council over alleged text messages from her to Monique Muller's family and that family members claim to be hurtful and that have been sent to the council.

The Western Cape branch of the Legal Practice Council confirmed that they're investigating the case and are waiting for reaction from Ellen Louise against the allegations.

In late-October the public image of Katlego Maboe abruptly turned toxic when Monique Muller, his former lover who is the mother of his 2-year old son, in a video accused him of allegedly giving her a sexually transmitted disease (STD) that damaged her womb.

In another video Monique Muller claimed that Katlego Maboe allegedly physically abused her as well, saying that "When the first physical attack happened I got a protection order against him".

In the video, Katlego, dressed in a gown, sheepishly admits to having cheated on her with another woman identified as Nikkita Murray who has since locked her social media accounts.

Mired in public scandal, Katlego Maboe then disappeared from the public eye, and said in a terse statement that "I was unfaithful to my partner during a very important time of our lives - an act I regret to this day. We are currently undergoing an unfortunate and painful separation which is being resolved through legal proceedings".

"In light of the comments made against me, I would like to state that I have never abused my partner".

The disgraced Katlego Maboe was immediately let go from SABC3's Expresso produced by Cardova Productions and was also dropped by Outsurance as the face of its commercials  and replaced by Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp.

Katlego Maboe was summoned to appear in court in November 2020 on charges of harassment of Monique Muller after he had allegedly violated the court's protection order not to stay away from her.

In South Africa, a protection order aims at preventing the reoccurrence of alleged domestic violence or sexual harassment by stating what conduct the alleged offender must refrain from doing.

Katlego Maboe allegedly broke the stipulations of the protection order that Monique Muller obtained on 3 September in Seapoint, Cape Town. The case was postponed due to a docket that was not delivered to court on time. Katlego Maboe is disputing these charges as well.

In other new revelations during November a close confidant of Monique Muller revealed to YOU and Huisgenoot magazines that Katlego Maboe was allegedly not the man that viewers saw on TV.

Monique in July 2020 discovered that Katlego Maboe allegedly gave her an STD, according to insiders.

He apparently travelled to Kiev, Ukraine to watch a soccer match while he was a brand ambassador for Lay's Chips where he later admitted to Monique that he kissed one of the women who won the competition on a dancefloor. He later allegedly had sex with this woman in a hotel room.

Undelivered docket drama sees Expresso TV presenter Katlego Maboe's court appearance postponed.

by Thinus Ferreira

A masked Expresso TV presenter Katlego Maboe did appear at Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Tuesday morning but the case had to be postponed following missing docket drama.

The disgraced TV host was summoned to appear in court today on charges of harassment of Monique Muller after the SABC3 presenter allegedly violated the court's protection order not to stay away from his former lover who is the mother of his 2-year old son.

Eric Ntabazalila, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in the Western Cape, on Tuesday said that Katlego Maboe's case had to be postponed on Tuesday since the prosecutor of the case was not aware of the case and discovered the news about the court appearance from reading about it in the media.

"The expected court appearance of Katlego Maboe did not take place this morning. When the prosecutor saw an article about allegations made, she contacted the police and asked about the court appearance.  She was given today’s date for the court appearance," Eric Ntabazalila said.

"This morning the docket was not brought to court as was expected. She has since asked for the docket to peruse it. No date has been set yet for the appearance."

The protection order and growing scandal around Katlego Maboe stem from a video that went viral on social media in which the TV star who appeared in Outsurance TV commercials as well, was confronted by Monique Muller over his infidelity.

In the video, Katlego, dressed in a gown, sheepishly admits to having cheated on her with another woman identified as Nikkita Murray who has since locked her social media accounts.

In the video, Monique Muller accuses Katlego Maboe of giving her an STD that damaged her womb, and in another video she claims that Katlego Maboe allegedly physically abused her as well, saying that "When the first physical attack happened I got a protection order against him".

Katlego Maboe has since abruptly disappeared from the public eye, only releasing a terse statement, saying that "I was unfaithful to my partner during a very important time of our lives - an act I regret to this day. We are currently undergoing an unfortunate and painful separation which is being resolved through legal proceedings".

"In light of the comments made against me, I would like to state that I have never abused my partner," Katlego Maboe said.

Katlego Maboe and Monique Muller have not issued further statements.

To try and limit brand damage Cardova Productions took Katlego Maboe off the air from its weekday breakfast show Expresso on SABC3 that is produced from its studio in Tokai.

Expresso publicist El Broide said in a statement that the SABC3 show "condemns any acts of violence and mistreatment, especially against women and children, and therefore take such allegations very seriously".

"Until such time as the matter has been fully investigated, and pending the outcome, Katlego Maboe will not be appearing on Expresso".

The insurance company Outsurance rushed to re-edit and scrub all traces of him from all of the insurance company's "Chencha dai deng" TV commercials, now only showing testimonials of customers without Katlego interviewing them.

In new revelations in the latest 5 November issue of YOU and Huisgenoot magazines, a close confidant of Monique Muller reveals that Katlego Maboe is allegedly not the man that viewers see on TV.

In July this year, Monique discovered that Katlego Maboe allegedly gave her an STD. Katlego Maboe apparently travelled to Kiev, Ukraine to watch a soccer match while he was a brand ambassador for Lay's Chips where he later admitted to Monique that he kissed one of the women who won the competition on a dancefloor. He later allegedly had sex with this woman in a hotel room.

GoBinge has not yet published the sit-down interview that the YouTube channel did and teased with Monique Muller more than a week ago, in which she talks about how Katlego Maboe had allegedly physically attacked her and how he cheated on her.

TV presenter Katlego Maboe summoned to appear in court this coming week on harassment charges after allegedly violating the protection order for Monique Muller.

The disgraced Expresso TV presenter Katlego Maboe will have to appear in court this week on charges of harassment of Monique Muller, after he allegedly violated the court's protection order not to stay away from his former lover who is the mother of his 2-year old son.

In South Africa, a protection order aims at preventing the reoccurrence of alleged domestic violence or sexual harassment by stating what conduct the alleged offender must refrain from doing.

The Rapport newspaper on Sunday reported Sunday that Katlego Maboe allegedly broke the stipulations of the protection order that Monique Muller obtained on 3 September in Seapoint, Cape Town. He will now have to appear in court on Tuesday.

The newspaper quotes Eric Ntabazalila, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in the Western Cape, who confirmed that Katlego Maboe, as well as Monique Muller, will have to be in court on this coming Tuesday 3 November.

The growing scandal surrounding the TV personality follows after a video on social media last week that has gone viral in which Katlego Maboe is confronted by Monique Muller over his infidelity.

To try and limit brand damage Cardova Productions this past week has taken Katlego Maboe off the air from its weekday breakfast show Expresso on SABC3 that is produced from its studio in Tokai.

YOU and Huisgenoot obtained another video in which Katlego Maboe tells Monique that his shameful behaviour is because he thought that being on TV enabled him to engage in this type of behaviour and that he feels terrible about it.

In the video, Katlego Maboe says that when he's on people's TV screens he is forced to smile and look cheerful because it's his work - but that when he's off-camera he doesn't have to keep up a happy and friendly persona.

Interestingly, a week later GoBinge has not yet published the sit-down interview that the YouTube channel did and teased with Monique Muller since last weekend, in which she talks about how Katlego Maboe had allegedly physically attacked her and how he cheated on her.
