BH90210 reboot will remain a single season limited series.

Fox has cancelled BH90210 as a show-within-a-show rboot of Beverly Hills, 90210 which will remain a one-season limited series.

M-Net (DStv 101) will broadcast the 6-episode BH90210, that has concluded its first season in the United States, on Saturday nights in South Africa.

The original cast - who reunited to play heightened, fictional versions of themselves as they try to get a reboot of their show back on the air - said that they would like to see the limited series run for several seasons.

"We have so many stories to tell that this could keep going on season after season," said Tori Spelling.

Fox said in a statement on Thursday announcing the BH90210 cancellation that "We are so proud to have reunited in a very special summer event one of the network’s legacy series and casts with 90210 fans".

"Profound thanks to and respect for Brian Austin Green], Gabrielle Carteris], Ian Ziering, Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Shannen Doherty and Tori Spelling, who, along with the entire crew and everyone at Fox and CBS Television Studios, poured their hearts and souls into this truly inventive and nostalgic revival."

BH90210 was co-created by Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling who were also the executive producers alongside co-creators and showrunners Mike Chessler and Chris Alberghini, and was produced by CBS Television Studios and Fox Entertainment.

The reboot of Beverly Hills, 90210 made its debut in the United States last night and in a melancholic scene, the iconic stars of the new BH90210 coming to M-Net (DStv 101) soon, addressed the recent unexpected death of Luke Perry the moment they got together with a lot of hugs.

The new BH90210 plays as a new type of reboot - the scripted drama series is still fictional but this time the actors are not playing their characters but a heightened version of themselves with the story following Tori Spelling trying to get the group together to do a new version of their famous 1990s Hollywood postal code show. (Psst: Of course she's successful and new drama ensues.)

In the first episode the gang immediately addresses the unexpected death of Luke Perry who played the character of Dylan McKay and who unexpectedly passed away in March this year after suffering two strokes while playing Archie's dad in the Riverdale youth series.

In BH90210 the original cast comes together at a 30-year reunion appearance at a convention centre where they all admit that they feel a bit strange.

"I like that the anniversary brought us together. I can't believe that we are all here," says Gabrielle Carteris who played Andrea.

"I wish that were true," remarks Jason Priestley who played Brandon, as the group of friends all exchange knowing solemn looks as they start to hug.

As part of a new in-show photo shoot the actors recreated one of their iconic poses but this time with Luke Perry absent from the group.

The updated show kept the entire opening theme and the whole song, redone with the older cast:

The upcoming parody-drama series, BH90210 will reunite on-screen the former cast of the 1990's American drama series.

Produced by CBS Television Studios and distributed by CBS Studios International, it will start on 7 August in the United States on FOX, although an exact broadcast starting date for the revival-series on M-Net in South Africa isn't yet known.

The original series' Gen X stars - Jason Priestley, Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling - will all appear, playing heightened versions of themselves, inspired by their real lives, as they try to get a new version of their former TV show off the ground.

In the new clip, Jason Priestley (Brandon), Shannen Doherty (Brenda), Jennie Garth (Kelly), Ian Ziering (Steve), Gabrielle Carteris (Andrea), Brian Austin Green (David) and Tori Spelling (Donna) can be seen reminiscing about their youth years.



Donna and David can be seen walking into the group's iconic hangout place, The Peach Pit, and share a kiss.

At a hotel resort sitting in a gazebo they all also share drinks and clink glasses, while Andrea once again holds an egg together with Steve like when she tried to gain access to a secret party, and Kelly on a plane says "out of control girl".

On Instagram Jennie Garth posted a new key art poster for BH90210 showing the cast all jumping into the air, captioning it with the words "I can't believe this is happening!!".

FOX gave the new Beverly Hills, 90210 a straight-to-series commission almost three decades after the original series that ran for a decade was broadcast on the SABC's TV1 until the broadcaster couldn't afford it and it jumped to M-Net.

A shortened five-season 90210 with a new cast also aired on M-Net a few years ago until its cancellation in 2013.

Now the original Beverly Hills, 90210 stars will be back, all also serving as executive producers.

Carol Potter who was mom Cindy Walsh and Christine Elise who was girl-gone-fire-crazy Emily Valentine will also make guest appearances in the series that has an initial 6-episode order.
