Mzansi Magic's new telenovela, Greed and Desire starts 4 April; drama is set in Bloemfontein and starts when the Makhetha family patriarch is murdered.
Mzansi Magic (DStv 161) is adding a new telenovela, Greed and Desire, that will run from Mondays to Thursdays at 19:30 from 4 April.
Greed and Desire replaces the expensive flop The Road that was prematurely cancelled by Mzansi Magic executives late last year when the M-Net produced channel decided to cut its losses as viewership plunged to a barely registering 120 000 viewers.
In the new telenovela, the drama moves from 1950's Johannesburg to modern-day Bloemfontein, with the Greed and Desire that's taking place in just one era, unlike The Road that confused some viewers with its dual-time setting.
Greed and Desire revolves around the prominent Makhetha family in Bloemfontein. Like Generations started in 1994 with a funeral, Greed and Desire starts with the death of the patriarch as well who is killed and his murder that sees the family empire falling in the wrong hands.
Like SABC1's Generations - The Legacy and Uzalo, a rightful heir is in the dark about inheritance, the responsibilities that lie ahead in the future, and a family being ruined through greed that is threatening their wealth and fortune.
"We welcome Greed and Desire and its stellar cast to the Mzansi Magic family and we will keep developing new and exciting programmes," says Nkateko Mabaso, M-Net director for local entertainment channels in a statement.
The Greed and Desire cast include Thato Molamu, Nthati Moshesh, Xoli Zondi, Sello Sebotsane, Thami Mngqolo, Buyile Mdladla, Linda Sebezo, Nkopano Mohola, Motsoaledi Setum, Keaby Mashugane, Kamo Letsosa and Bonginkosi Shibe.
