BREAKING. MultiChoice on axing plans for Cape Town Carnival TV channel: ''We have considered various options.''

You're reading it here first.

On Thursday I was first to break the news RIGHT HERE that M-Net is backtracking on its September 2009 promise to have a dedicated new TV channel during March to cover the upcoming Cape Town Carnival - a promise that came with the plan to have a lot of special TV content, as well as covering the parade live. (M-Net will now only film a one hour special and broadcast it in April, as I reported later Thursday.)

Then on Friday I brought you the news first RIGHT HERE that it was actually MultiChoice who decided to axe the plans for a dedicated channel on DStv.

Now I've heard from MultiChoice themselves.

''MultiChoice supports the Cape Town Carnival and believes it will be a great event to profile the city of Cape Town and the country as a whole. We are one of the sponsors of the event. We have considered various options and decided to incorporate a summary of the event into the M-Net channel as part of their schedule.''
