TERRIFIC. Tech Report on the eNews Channel turns out its 50th episode tonight at 21:30.

Although e.tv publicity does flat-out nothing for this extremely well-produced weekly show and which is actually a feather in the cap for the eNews Channel (DStv 403), the second season of Tech Report (Thursdays, 21:30) is turning out its 50th episode of the series tonight - a quite remarkable achievement.

Tech Report - which in my view should become a permanent year-round show on the eNews Channel (with Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola which is another well-produced local production getting renewed for limited seasons) - are made by people who clearly know the field of expertise, in this case technology and gadgets, and translate it to television very well.

Tech Report (as is Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola) is quality television and fills a distinct niche with distinction. Because the production values are so high, it adds and enhances the weekly TV programming value proposition of this 24 hour South African news channel - it gives and provides the South African TV viewer something which you can't find anywhere else.

It's clever, it's smart, it's funny, it's well researched, it's spot-on with current news and developments and it's out front with consumer breaking news on the tech and gadget front wonderfully customised with South African context.

With Tech Report marking the milestone of 50 episodes tonight, hopefully the extended episode running order of this weekly half hour show, produced by Homebrew Films in Cape Town, indicates that Debbie Meyer, the eNews Channel's executive producer for current affairs and the eNews Channel powers-that-be have realized the value, quality and smarts that this programme brings to the eNews Channel stable.

I can't say for sure whether Tech Report has indeed become a year round show, or how many episodes there will still be, or how long its current extended season will continue, since e.tv is doing nothing to promote or publicize the show - not with weekly episode synopsis, not with any regular updates, or any talk about the show's ongoing future.

According to an on-air promo Thursday night's episode of Tech Report on the eNews Channel - it's 50th - will have "a kaleidoscope of tech with something for everyone. We'll take you behind the scenes of the Square Kilometre Array project with a visit to the engineering hub. Then we're off to a green building in the heart of the winelands and we go shopping with news on the latest 3D tech."

Tech Report, the weekly tech-news show which has given the South African 24 hour news channel an added edge when it comes to news about technology was originally conceived by André-Pierre du Plessis, who pitched the show to Greenwall Productions back in July 2009. Nicky Greenwall changed the original working title Web Report to The Tech Report to form part of her collection of current affairs programmes produced for e.Sat such as The Showbiz Report and The Style Report. It took the team 6 months to put the show's pilot together, but after a successful pitch they only had another 6 months to produce the show's first 10 episodes.

Celia Ncalane, who was the presenter of the original pilot (which was never aired), was only seen presenting the first episode after which Bongo Mbutuma became the presenter for the first season.

After Nicky Greenwall fell pregnant, Greenwall Productions declined to produce another season and various production companies pitched to take the show further. The current second season is the result, with the The dropped from Tech Report.

Since 10 November 2011, when Homebrew Films' Tech Report premiered, Ndoni Khanyile has been presenting the show which has been renewed for further episodes continuously. Tonight will be the new team's 40th episode bringing its total to a small TV milestone of 50 episodes.

Correspondents who have been part of show since its inception are Jonathan Allan-Barrett, who's based in Johannesburg and is assisted by producer JP Pienaar. Juliet McGuire and Seth Rotherham, both based in Cape Town, have also been with the show since the start. Simon Hartley assists Seth Rotherham on his often hilarious scripts while Liebe Calitz produce their inserts and acts as the show's very competent production manager. Rusty du Preez, also a full-time Homebrew Films employee, shoots these inserts as well as the studio links at their Gardens offices, with Ben Heyns assisting as co-producer.

Contributions since the current second season of Tech Report include presenter Jason Maneveld and radio DJ Tapfuma Makina.

With the eNews Channel that will soon be available on the Sky satellite TV platform in Europe, it will be interesting to see how European audiences respond to Tech Report which will now be seen beyond Africa.

The eNews Channel would make a wise decision to keep this show as an all-rounder weekly programme on the schedule. Despite limited and no publicity, Tech Report is a consistent, well done addition to the news channel's TV programming brand.

Programming note: The vastly-improved The Tech Report on the eNews Channel looking back at the tech year on 29 December at 21:30.

The Tech Report, the local weekly magazine show looking at technology, gadgets and cyberspace in all its varied forms, on Thursdays at 21:30 on the eNews Channel (DStv 403) has a special '2011 Year End Special next Thursday, 29 December.

The new second season of The Tech Report on the eNews Channel is suddenly a vastly-improved, well-researched, and a much better presented TV show with a very noticeable improvement in production values that speaks of a much better focus, actual conscious effort and better journalism directed at the technology industry. Everything about it is better, and much better.

The eNews Channel wouldn't go wrong to add The Tech Report - as it's done and produced now - as a permanent all year round weekly magazine show. The show is now informative, more cutting-edge, comes across with a hugely improved look and feel, and suddenly feels much more purposefully driven to be relevant and tech-newsie with just the right consumer slant.

Within a few short episodes the second season of The Tech Report has moved from being largely irrelevant and nice-to-have in its first season to must-see television. It's much more agenda-setting, bringing viewers news and information you haven't yet heard and don't yet know.

Case in point is The Tech Report's 2011 Year End Special next week - a look back at this past year and the role technology played in some of the biggest global stories of the year.

''From revolutions to natural disasters, remembering global icons, to killing global villains. From Cairo's Tahrir Square to the heart of Captalism in New York, from a grieving Cupertino to a world that waited in wrapt anticipation for a slew of new products, innovations and must have gadgets. For sneak-peaks at what can be expected connect with The Tech Report,'' says the show about next week's episode.

This episode of The Tech Report will repeats on 30 December at 10:30, 31 December at 13:30, 1 January at 18:30, 2 January at 21:30 and 3 January at 12:30.

BREAKING. The second season of The Tech Report on the eNews Channel a 'roundup of everything about the world of technology'.

You're reading it here first.

Earlier today RIGHT HERE I broke the news that The Tech Report will be back on the eNews Channel (DStv 403), starting this Thursday at 21:30 - and now I have more.

The second season of The Tech Report will not be produced by Greenwall Productions but has now shifted house so to speak and will be done by Homebrew Films, with the show that gets a proper set, as well as a set of presenters such as Ndoni KhanyileSeth Rotherham, Jason Maneveld, Tapfuma Makina and Jonathan-Allan Barrett and Juliet McGuire as insert presenters.

e.tv tells me the studio set has been constructed and added ''to create a unique home for the show that has its own identity''. There will be 13 episodes in the second season of The Tech Report on the eNews Channel with repeats scheduled for Fridays (10:30), Saturdays (13:30), Sundays (18:30), Mondays (21:30) and Tuesdays (12:30).

e.tv describes the second season of The Tech Report as ''roundup of everything you need to know about the wild and wonderful world of technology''. In keeping with the tech theme viewers will be able to keep up with The Tech Report by ways of social media by sending email to techreport@enewschannel.co.za, finding the show on Google+ as well as Facebook and Twitter.

BREAKING. The Tech Report back for a second season on the eNews Channel from Thursday 10 November at 21:30.

You're reading it here first.

There is zero publicity happening and not as much as a single word or warning from e.tv, so let me be the first to write and tell you that a second season of The Tech Report will be starting on the eNews Channel (DStv 403) this Thursday at 21:30.

The Tech Report, the first season of which started on the eNews Channel last September, is the umpteenth show on the eNews Channel that gets no programming note or advisory send to the press from the news channel, with e.tv seemingly magically expecting viewers and people to know what is actually going to be on the channel.

The second season of The Tech Report produced from Cape Town, will now have a cubic studio set a slightly updated and tweaked show logo, as well as a set of some new presenters. Who they are nobody knows since e.tv's publicity department so far couldn't be bothered to tell viewers or the press that the show is starting, let alone who will be in it.

The second season of The Tech Report will once again look at the latest techonology news from gadgets to cars, gizmos and social networking, to international trends and developments.

The eNews Channel schedule is changing and the half hour The Tech Report will have repeat timeslots on Fridays (10:30), Saturdays (13:30), Sundays (18:30), Mondays (21:30) and Tuesdays (12:30).

UPDATE Tuesday 8 November 13:10 - e.tv is now telling me the second season of The Tech Report will be presented by Ndoni Khanyile with Seth Rotherham, Jason Maneveld, Tapfuma Makina, Jonathan-Allan Barrett and Juliet McGuire as insert presenters.

TOLDJA! The eNews Channel confirms addition of The Tech Report, hosted by Celia Ncalane.

I broke the news in June RIGHT HERE that the eNews Channel (DStv 403) is working on a IT/tech magazine show and then last Thursday RIGHT HERE I broke the news that it will be called The Tech Report and start on September 30.

It took e.tv and the eNews Channel exactly a week to just now confirm my The Tech Report news. Exactly as I've said right from the beginning The Tech Report will be produced for the eNews Channel by Nicky Greenwall and her Greenwall Productions and will premiere on Thursday, September 30 at 21:00. The Tech Report will be hosted by Celia Ncalane (27). Other presenters of The Tech Report include the award-winning blogger Seth Rotherham, Car Magazine's Juliet McGuire, the digital marketing specialist Jonathan Allan-Barrett and the kykNET eNuus reporter reporter Andre-Pierre du Plessis.

The Tech Report will be a half hour show in 10 episodes and will be similar in style to Greenwall Productions other shows like The Showbiz Report and The Style Report - The Tech Report looking at innovations on the technology and consumer gadgetry front.

In a just issued press release Nicky Greenwall says ''The Tech Report is an extension of The Showbiz Report brand. It will appeal to the tech savvy as well as those who would like to become more technologically literate. I think we bring viewers a fresh take on all of the aspects of technology that effect our everyday lives.''
