REVEALED. The 4th Powerpuff Girl - voiced by Toya Delazy in South Africa and Africa - is blue, brown and purple and named Bliss.

The Cartoon Network (DStv 301) has unveiled how the 4th Powerpuff Girl named Bliss looks and who is voiced by Toya Delazy in Africa and South Africa and by 15 other regionalised stars in America and other parts of the world.

The blue hair, purple eyed and brown-skinned Bliss has made her appearance in the new 5-episode The Powerpuff Girls special, The Powerpuff Girls: The Power of Four that kicked off in America on Sunday, with Turner Broadcasting that will roll out the episodes in South Africa and Africa a month later on Saturday 21 October at 08:00.

For people who can't wait, The Power of Four will be pre-screened before its TV broadcast on 7 October in the Kids Zone in the Cartoon Network screening area at the DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival.

The Powerpuff Girls is produced by Cartoon Network Studios with Nick Jennings as executive producer and Bob Boyle as co-executive producer.

The teenage Bliss is the long-lost older sister of Bubbles, Blossom and Buttercup. In the new 5-part series, Bliss returns to Townsville as she figures out her powers that includes flying (of course!), super strength, telekinesis and teleportation.

Bliss was created by Professor Utonium before he made the three other girls, but she mysteriously disappeared for reasons unknown, and hasn't been seen by anyone in a very long time.

Now she is back but there's a lot of unanswered questions. Where was she? What went wrong? Why is she suddenly back? Of course the reunited sisters can sit down and just ask questions since they have to work together and use their combined powers to save Townsville.

Besides Toya Delazy, female stars from around the world are lending their voices to Bliss, with every regional feed of The Cartoon Network broadcasting their own version. The Australian star Wengie is for instance the voice of Bliss for Australia and New Zealand.

On voicing Bliss for Africa and South Africa, Toya Delazy says that she's always wanted to be a voice-over artists for a cartoon character" and that "it is an honour to be associated with the campaign and to represent Cartoon Network on the African continent again".

Cartoon Network says it has "joined forces with 15 super-powered celebrities across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Australia who will each lend their voice to the newly revealed 4th Powerpuff Girl".

"This activation is the perfect way to continue building brand awareness and affinity, not only with girls and kids, but with millennial women and mums too," says Lesley Bailey, the vice president for channel marketing and brand management at Turner's kids division for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.

In 2016 Turner Africa's Cartoon Network collaborated with Toya Delazy to do a localised South African version of The Powerpuff Girls theme song for the launch of the reimagined new series.

When the new season of the rebooted Powerpuff Girls starts on 17 September in America, a 4th Powerpuff Girl will join the show and it will likely be Toya Delazy providing the voice.

The new episodes are part of a 5-episode story, The Powerpuff Girls: Power of Four.

Interestingly Cartoon Network announced last month that the South African singer Toya Delazy who already lent her voice to the show previously, will be lending her voice to The Powerpuff Girls again but this time - in 5 episodes.

It now looks very likely that Toya Delazy is the 4th Powerpuff Girl!

In 2016 Turner Africa's Cartoon Network collaborated with Toya Delazy to do a localised South African version of The Powerpuff Girls theme song for the launch of the reimagined new series.

The theme song was produced and sung by Toya Delazy. It was followed up earlier this year when Cartoon Network Africa did a special PPG African Art Factory exhibit featuring local artists' expressions of the Powerpuff Girls.

At the beginning of the year, Toya Delazy was contacted and asked if she wanted to be the voice-over artist of a new female character appearing in 5 special episodes of The Powerpuff Girls. Interestingly, the new Powerpuff Girl will also appear in ... 5 special episodes.

"I have always dreamed of being the voice of a cartoon character," Toya Delazy said in a Cartoon Network statement last month. "Never did I think I would be recording a voice for Cartoon Network's The Powerpuff Girls though!"

"Toya Delazy is definitely a perfect fit for The Powerpuff Girls brand," says Jaime Ondarza, the senior vice president at Turner Broadcasting for Southern Europe and Africa.

"She is confident, bubbly and quirky, all the values that we are familiar with, love and appreciate. We have a lot of surprises up our sleeves. All details are set to be revealed this October."

UPDATE: An hour after TVwithThinus reported the news, PR company Burson-Masteller Africa has now issued a press release about the Cartoon Network show. Burson-Marsteller Africa confirms the press release has been sent to all entertainment media.

An hour after my reporting, Burson-Marsteller Africa used the exact same press release issued in August but changed two sentences before sending it to all media.

The sentence: "I have always dreamed of being the voice of a cartoon character," attributed to Toya Delazy now reads: "Never did I think I would be recording a voice over as the new Powerpuff Girl".

From this evening South Africans can see Cartoon Network's The Powerpuff Girls as you've never seen them before in a world-first event - reimagined by 10 South African artists and illustrators in a special local art exhibition.

Turner International's Cartoon Network (DStv 301) came up with the Powerpuff Art Factory - opening tonight and running until 2 May at 91 Loop Street in Cape Town, featuring an exhibition of 10 unique Powerpuff Girls screen-prints by 10 artists and illustrators.

Singer Tony Delazy sang and opened the Powerpuff Girls Art Factory media launch showing on Wednesday evening with her local version of the Powerpuff Girls theme song she produced last year for the relaunch of the new series, while guests munched on cupcakes and primary coloured drinks.

Cartoon Network decided to reimagine the Powerpuff Girls through the lens of contemporary African artists with the money from the initiative of localising the iconic pop-culture brand, going to Rock Girl South Africa, a girl-led non-governmental organisation (NGO) helping to reduce violence against women and girls.

The new Powerpuff Girls is currently on Cartoon Network on weekdays at 17:20, and Turner International in Africa decided to run the initiative with each of the 10 artworks on display that's hand-printed on archival paper and that's available for sale.

The 10 South African Powerpuff Girls paintings have been done by Thandiwe Tshabalala, Ello Xray Eyez, Qondile Dlamini, Jade Klara, Tyla Manson, Ndumiso Nyoni, Karabo Poppy Moletsane, Anja "Nanna" Venter, Jeanne Fourie and Saint Rose (Kgabo Mametja).

"We believe that not only is this the first event of its kind in Africa, we believe it's the first event of its kind in the world," said Colman Murray, Turner Broadcasting Africa's business development director.

"Cartoon Network is the dominant kids channel across Africa. But it's not only the number one kids channel, but it ranks number 7 for adults out of 102 channels that you can get on DStv."

He revealed fascinating local viewership statistics regarding the massive popularity of Turner's Cartoon Network on DStv in South Africa, and the enduring appeal of the Powerpuff Girls. 

"More than 10.2 million viewers have tuned in to Cartoon Network already this year in South Africa," said Colman Murray.

"Powerpuff Girls has reached an audience of more than 4.9 million viewers this year in South Africa. Powerpuff Girls has reached more than one in two kids in South Africa since its launch - it's a massive success for us."

Turner Broadcasting's Cartoon Network to launch its first-ever animated mini-series, Over the Garden Wall on Halloween on DStv.

Cartoon Network (DStv 301) from Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) will launch the kids channel's first-ever animated mini-series, Over the Garden Wall, on Halloween on MultiChoice's DStv satellite pay-TV platform.

Turner Broadcasting Africa didn't release the Cartoon Network information to South Africa's media when it was handed out at the MultiChoice Content Showcase in Mauritius earlier this month and that South African press and TV critics were not invited to.

However the information is just as relevant and applicable for Cartoon Network as seen on DStv in South Africa - in fact is punts only its viewership in South Africa.

Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) says the Cartoon Network (DStv 301) "is ranked number one in South Africa with 2.4 million monthly views".

"With this staggering result, this unique channel  has managed to dominate the age groups of 4-14, 4-9 and 10-14 as well as its core target market, boys aged 4-14".

Over the Garden Wall will launch on Hallows eve as Cartoon Network's first-ever animated mini-series, with a cast which consists of Elijah Wood, John Cleese and Tim Curry.

Over the Garden Wall follows the story of two brothers - Wirt and Greg - as they find themselves lost in a strange forest, where they encounter numerous surprises and obstacles on their journey through the woods.

"It's got a nostalgic storybook feeling, inspired by folk art and classical illustrations, not to mention the Americana influenced soundtrack," says TBS.

We Bare Bears will start on the Cartoon Network in December.

The Powerpuff Girls which was first broadcast in 1996, is set for a global relaunch in 2016.

The new Ben 10 will start in Africa in autumn 2016 and in North America in 2017. Cartoon Network also has two brand-new seasons of The Amazing World of Gumball.

"It is another extraordinary year for Turner's kids' channels in 2015 and viewers can expect it to continue in 2016," says Pierre Branco, the vice president for Southern Europe and Africa for Turner Broadcasting System.
