BREAKING. Nate Berkus' surprising confession of his talk show on SABC3: 'I was enormously relieved when it was cancelled'.

Oprah protege, Nate Berkus of the cancelled The Nate Berkus Show still seen weekdays on SABC3 at 09:30 now admits that he was "enormously relieved" when his Sony Television produced talk show about home improvement was cancelled after just one season.

On Sunday Nate Berkus talked to Oprah Winfrey for an episode of Super Soul Sunday - another of Oprah Winfrey's weekly new talk shows in America on her Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) and revealed how he already knew that The Nate Berkus Show wasn't going to work two weeks into its development.

Oprah Winfrey said she told Nate Berkus that doing a talk show five days a week is extremely hard and difficult and that she thought that Nate Berkus should rather be doing it for fewer days a week or once a week, but that she didn't want to stand in his way because he was ambitious and that she could see that it was something which he really wanted.

Nate Berkus confessed to Oprah Winfrey that having a daily talk show and the stress and time demands that came with that made him extremely unhappy. He didn't feel that he had enough space and time to do what he wanted on The Nate Berkus Show because for the inserts when he appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show he had about six weeks to get everything right and time to change things if it didn't work out.

"I felt exhausted. I gained 20 pounds. I felt unhealthy. I felt there was no way I could do a good job," Nate Berkus told Oprah Winfrey of doing The Nate Berkus Show which was cancelled a year ago.

Oprah Winfrey told Nate Berkus that if he wanted to do a once-a-week TV show, he can come and do it on OWN.

"I have adored you since the first time you were on the show. We all felt that you had it. I remember having a conversation with you when you were leaning towards having your own show. What I was feeling was that you wanted to do this thing."

"I was trying to discourage you from going into five days a week. But I also knew you were in that space where you really wanted it. And you felt that you should and I felt that we've been behind you all the time," said Oprah Winfrey.

"I'm ambitious. I felt that that was an opportunity of a lifetime. And everybody around me told me that it was the opportunity of a lifetime. And the truth is it was. It was a massive opportunity of a lifetime," said Nate Berkus.

"But an almost impossible thing to do in the way you wanted to do it every day," said Oprah Winfrey.

"With the show every day I lost sight of what was important and what mattered to me because I was just on that schedule every day," said Nate Berkus.

BREAKING. The Nate Berkus Show's new starting date on SABC3 is now 9 April - but it will no longer be the show replacing All My Children.

I can exclusively break the news that The Nate Berkus Show (which SABC3 wanted to start on 2 January and which would have been the replacement for All My Children - news I broke RIGHT HERE last year) will now start on Monday 9 April at 09:30 on SABC3 and will run from Mondays to Wednesdays.

While SABC3 is still definitely planning on killing All My Children, the SABC didn't sign the licensing agreement in time before the start of the Christmas holiday.

Subsequently The Nate Berkus Show couldn't start in time. The administrative and financial malaise at the content acquisitions division of the SABC basically gave All My Children a reprieve, with the soap currntly continuing on a month to month basis.

Since last year I have on a weekly basis trying to get official answers from SABC3 regarding All My Children (still no response) specific dynamics, but what I can reveal is that The Nate Berkus Show, once it starts on 9 April, will no longer replace All My Children which was the original plan.

All My Children will continue for the time being in the doldrum 14:00 weekday timeslot, while the Sony Television Production will get the 09:30 slot - for 200 episodes of Nate Berkus.

BREAKING. The Nate Berkus Show cancelled after 2 seasons; throwing a spanner in the works for SABC3's new talk show plans.

The Nate Berkus Show, a spin-off of sorts from The Oprah Winfrey Show with that show's regular makeover expert Nate Berkus has been cancelled, Broadcasting & Cable reports.

This development is significant since TV with Thinus broke the news RIGHT HERE last month that SABC3 is picking up The Nate Berkus Show as a replacement for Oprah which will take over the timeslot from 2 January.

The Nate Berkus Show from Sony Pictures Television and Harpo Productions that just started its second season, will complete the talk show's second season run, but won't be renewed for a third season. The Nate Berkus Show that was expensive to produce will also not be moving over out of syndication to Oprah Winfrey's OWN TV channel.

It means that SABC3 which was looking for a long proposition talk show in the vein of The View, Dr Oz and Three Talk already on its schedule, will now be getting a limited run show for two years.

''After careful consideration, we have decided that The Nate Berkus Show will not return for a third season in the fall," said Sony Pictures Television and Harpo Productions in a joint statement. "We are grateful for the hard work and heart that Nate, executive producer Corin Nelson and their entire team have poured into the show, and we're very proud of what they've delivered."

TV with Thinus can break the news that SABC3 is dumping its longtime soap All My Children from January 2012 with Pine Valley's people getting the axe and being replaced in the 14:00 weekday timeslot by The Nate Berkus Show from Monday 2 January.

SABC3 didn't immediately respond to media enquiries made about why the broadcaster is ending All My Children. The soap ended last month in America but since SABC3 is behind, several more seasons of the show is potentially available.

All My Children is getting replaced by The Nate Berkus Show, another spin-off from The Oprah Winfrey Show, similar to Dr Phil and Dr Oz.
