Busi Lurayo the presenter of Million Rand Money Drop on M-Net starting on Wednesday 10 April.

Busi Lurayi has been announced as the presenter of the format game show Million Rand Money Drop which will start broadcasting on Wednesday 10 April at 19:30.

Busi Lurayi who've previously appeared on South African television screens in the role of Phumzile in City Ses'la as well as Generations and Sokhulu & Partners as well as international productions such as ER and Wild at Heart is called "the ideal choice" by M-Net as presenter of Million Rand Money Drop.

"When we were looking for a presenter for Million Rand Money Drop, the search was on for someone who could handle the pressure of a series with such high-stakes, while still being able to empathise with contestants, whether they are winning - or losing - large amounts of money," says M-Net in a press statement announcing Busi Lurayi.

Filming of the first season has been completed and Million Rand Money Drop is produced by Endemol South Africa.

"There have only ever been a handful of female presenters of this series internationally, and Busi Lurayi brought the perfect combination of skill, quick-thinking, humour and affability to the role of host ... not to mention her stylish good looks too," says M-Net.

In Million Rand Money Drop pairs of contestants working together as a team has to try and answer 7 questions correctly by placing physical cash on any of a number of possibly right multiple choice answers. The money placed on wrong answers fall through a trap door.

The auditions in Cape Town for M-Net's new gameshow, Million Rand Money Drop, a local version of the format show Million Dollar Money Drop, saw long lines of wannabe contestants snaking around the block for the chance to try out for the new Endemol South Africa produced show.

Hopeful winners of the R1 million in cash were eager to talk to camera crews as they waited patiently in the queue. The new game show which will also see a Nigerian version entitled Million Dollar Money Drop for one of the AfricaMagic channels run by M-Net Africa.

The nationwide auditions for the show will conclude in Port Elizabeth on Friday 16 November and Saturday 17 November.

FULL AUDITION DETAILS: M-Net's Million Rand Money Drop looking for teams and contestants who are motivated to get as far as they can.

The final specific audition details are now available for M-Net's new format game show, Million Rand Money Drop produced for the pay-TV broadcaster by Endemol South Africa.

While a Nigerian version, Million Dollar Money Drop, will also be produced by M-Net for AfricaMagic Entertainment, South African auditions for the South African version will start on Thursday.

For each of the dates below, M-Net tells me that gates open at the respective venues at 10:00 in every city.

Since the premise of Million Rand Money Drop is a format built on the tension between two people having to decide (and often arguing and second-guessing on which hopefully-right answer the money should be placed), people auditioning for the game show will have to do so with any kind of partner.

The show is looking for duos with a kind of chemistry (good or bad) between them, but who will make for have-to-watch television and are really motivated to get as far as they possible can.

Both people need to be older than 18 years. People auditioning will need to take their ID identity documents to the auditions.

 M-Net cannot predict how long queues will be, so people who want to enter are encouraged to show up early. An individual audition will take between 30 minutes to 1 hour. Doors will  remain open until all people in the audition queue has been processed and been seen by the producers.

Prospective contestants will be asked a few simple general knowledge questions and will be interview by members of the Million Rand Money Drop production team. Contestants will then be told who's moving on to the next round or not.

BREAKING. M-Net adapting the game show format Million Rand Money Drop for South Africa; Endemol producing.

Following the announcement to the rest of Africa a few weeks ago of a Nigerian version of the game show format Million Dollar Money Drop on the AfricaMagic Entertainment channel run by M-Net, the pay TV provider just announced that a South African version entitled Million Rand Money Drop will be produced as well.

Endemol South Africa is the producer for both Million Dollar Money Drop Nigeria as well as Million Rand Money Drop for South Africa.

''The American version of this nail-biting game show, which was screened on M-Net earlier this year struck a cord with our audiences and we're excited to introduce the local version of this unique, high-stakes game show to our M-Net schedule," says Theo Erasmus, the channel director for general entertainment at M-Net in a press statement.

Contestants start with R1 million in notes and have to place the cash on any of three different answers to a trivia questions, after which trap doors below the "answers" open under the incorrect options and contestants losing the money they perhaps have placed on those answers.

Endemol South Africa will be holding auditions in Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth from the end of the month and in November for contestants who want to enter Million Rand Money Drop.
