BREAKING. 2011 Channel O Music Video Awards set to take place on Friday 11 November at the Sandton Convention Centre.

You're reading it here first.

I can exclusively break the news that the 2011 Channel O Music Video Awards will take place on Friday 11 November and reveal that it will be happening at the Sandton Convention Centre like last year's award ceremony.

When Channel O announced the 2011 Channel O Music Video Awards nominees and had a nominees announcement launch party the channel couldn't care less to actually tell all the press covering television about, the music channel also strangely omitted any actual date for the awards broadcast.

I can tell you the 2011 Channel O Music Video Awards will take place on 11 November and will once again most probably be a live or slighty live delayed broadcast.

BREAKING. Channel O announce the 2011 Music Video Awards but refuses to say when the ceremony it actually going to taking place or where.

Channel O (DStv 320) announced the 2011 Channel O Music Video Awards by just sending out a list of nominees the channel wants viewers to vote for but in a non-sensical approach refuses to say when the actual 2011 Channel O Music Video Awards will be taking place, and doesn't even want to say where it will be happening.

The channel wants viewers to vote by MXit or SMS but isn't saying how much an SMS will actually be costing South African viewers.

Asked on what date the 2011 Channel O Music Video Awards will actually be taking place and where it will be held, Channel O's publicity refuse to answer and only says ''that information will be released at a later date''.

REVIEW. 2010 Channel O Music Video Awards was a bumpy, low-cost flight with less class; and more crass than previous years.

The 2010 Channel O Music Video Awards at the Sandton Convention Centre, which - although still the best local televised awards ceremony on TV and that was broadcast live this year for the first time - was definitely of a lower class quality and a more muted presentation standard than that of the previous two awards ceremonies in 2008 and 2009.

I was there in person (as one of the only few remaining, consistent TV writers who also attended in previous years), and although the 2010 Channel O Music Awards shone less bright this year than in the previous two fantastic turns, it was still better than better by-the-book awards function than what most other TV channels can muster.

The first live broadcast of the Channel O Music Video Awards (with an aviation theme running through the pre-party venue and the awards ceremony this year) was marred by a technical glitch that caused the live ceremony to start - and then restart after 4 minutes - with no explanation. The creative theme and practical application in terms of structural set and stage design, lighting, colour, and pacing were once again really just perfect - similar to the way the production created inventive video wall use and graphics during the previous two years when the Channel O Music Video Awards really got it right.

The big problem this year at the 2010 Channel O Video Music Awards - this endeavour is still the single biggest annual budgetary expense for Channel O (DStv 320) - was in the organizers and producers suddenly turning this year's awards into a less glam, low-cost airline flight. Guests were less involved and made to - instead of sitting around tables with a four course meal while the awards are proceeding aka the Golden Globes - sit through the event in school hall styled rows of seats, with no breaks and a clearly less classy, more crassy ''grab-some-chicken, get-a-drink-at-the-bar, after-party-DJ, stand-and-eat-thing''. Not really an event that turned out to be worth getting all dressed up for if the awards ceremony only seats ''economy''.

And then there were the completely out-of-control guests who BLATANTLY STOLE . . . .

BREAKING. Channel O to broadcast the 2010 Channel O Music Video Awards live for the first time in November.

You're reading it here first.

I realized what they were planning a few days ago when Channel O (DStv 320) started to move shows out of the way and changed the schedule, but I decided to wait until official word. Now I can tell you that Channel O will be broadcasting the 2010 Channel O Music Video Awards live for the first time in the history of this awards ceremony on Thursday, November 4 from the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg to the whole of Africa.

Personally I've been to them all and the Channel O Music Video Awards ceremony in terms of quality, length, structure, format, organization, look and feel and creativity, simply towers head and shoulders above any other local TV awards ceremony.

''The decision to go live with the 2010 Channel O Music Video Awards lets music fans from across the continent take part in the event as it unfolds,'' says Yolisa Phahle, channel director for special interests at M-Net. ''We are planning not only a fantastic night out for those who come to the Sandton Convention Centre - but also a television show that will bring the glitz, glamour and excitement of the awards right into the homes of Channel O viewers all over Africa.''
