MultiChoice adds a trove of BBC Studios arts and culture programming to DStv online.
MultiChoice is fast expanding and building out its stacked, online content verticals on its DStv Now Catch Up service, adding a BBC Arts & Culture trove of shows that DStv Premium subscribers can access that go beyond the linear channels carried on DStv.
In a new content deal between MultiChoice and BBC Studios Africa, 127 hours of arts and culture programming is being added to the DStv Now streaming service for DStv Premium subscribers from 4 September, ranging from opera and architecture to British royal palaces.
The BBC Arts & Culture on-demand content addition follows MultiChoice's A+E Networks deal for its History Vault content vertical that was added in July and is bringing DStv subscribers more history-interest documentary and series programming than what's available on A+E Networks Africa's linear History (DStv 186) channel.
MultiChoice has also been adding more and more limited period additional content blocks like online box sets from Discovery Networks International during its Discovery Channel Shark Week in July for instance.
The BBC Arts & Culture content will be available to stream or download on Catch Up on DStv Now online and on the app, and also on Catch Up Plus accessible through a DStv Explora connected to the internet.
MultiChoice says the additional content from the BBC on DStv Now can be "categorised into 10 genres".
"Music" will range from live concerts from some of the world's most celebrated musicians Roberta Flack and Robbie Williams, symphonic orchestra and opera and thought-provoking documentaries on some of the greatest musicians of all time including Jimi Hendrix, Duran Duran and for younger audiences One Direction.
"The Great Masters" will delve into the works of Rembrandt, Van Gogh and Da Vinci amongst others, with DStv subscribers who can lso explore the man-made world with explorations of gothic architecture, through to some of the British Royal families' most iconic palaces.
Shows that will soon be available to stream include:
