There was no official press release or announcement to the media from MultiChoice, or from individual channels or the PR agencies (which communicate on behalf of certain channels) to announce that more people would be able to tune in to watch and access their channels this weekend.
I've made a media enquiry now (after hours) to MultiChoice the moment I became aware of it, although there will likely only be a response on Friday morning on this MultiChoice initiative. (No idea what it's officially called, if anything).
According to a source I spoke to this evening (okay, my dad who is on a cheaper DStv bouquet) he saw a purple message on screen. I called him again on his cellphone this time and made him go back to their TV set to try and find it and read it to me (no luck, it couldn't be found again).
My father is however very excited to watch this weekend his favourite "number one TV channel on the list of channels we don't have": History. According to my dad he will be able to watch DStv channels from Friday until Monday morning and can't wait.
MultiChoice is allowing subscribers of DStv Access, DStv Compact, DStv Family, DStv Compact Plus, DStv Mobile and DStv Extra access to the additional channels.
SuperSport 1,2,3,5 and SuperSport 6, Discovery Channel, BBC Knowledge, Comedy Central, AfricaMagic Entertainment, Crime & and Investigation Network, Trace Sports Stars, Animal Planet, History Channel, CBeebies, Sky News, Big Brother on channel 197, Big Brother on channel 198, FOX and MTV Base will be viewable from Friday 19 July at 16:00 to Monday 21 July at 10:00.
