You're reading it here first.

M-Net Series (DStv 110) has a Smash on its hands - I can reveal that the new musical drama is coming to the DStv channel, starting on Thursday 18 October at 19:30 for 15 episodes.

In an upcoming episode of 30 Rock South African viewers will see Liz Lemon quip that she doesn't have committment issues. "I still watch Smash!" she quickly says. It's a delicious in-joke about the new NBC drama, described as "Glee for grown-ups") which saw its viewership falter but actually rebound later. Smash has been renewed for a second season.

Smash gives viewers a glimpse behind the scenes of showbiz drama. Producers, singers, actors and a whole lot of other people are all involved in, and vie for power prestige and the spotlight, in a new musical about the life of Marilyn Monroe - not just the two women who both want to play Marilyn.

Viewers will see the production take shape from week to week as all kinds of power struggles ensue, drama and scandal rock the production, the producers trying to keep the show development from collapsing as all kinds of unexpected (in showbiz world known as "the usual") happens, and the personal dramas of the individual characters are slowly revealed.

Similar to Glee there's many songs organically built into the Smash.
