BREAKING. M-Net grabs The Secret Circle, but the new teen drama about a group of young witches won't be on Vuzu ...
You're reading it here first.
My dear Cassie, I can exclusively break the news that M-Net - the pay TV broadcaster - has acquired the broadcasting rights to the new ''teen witches'' show, The Secret Circle - but here's where it gets interesting: Only I can reveal that the show won't be on the youth channel Vuzu (DStv 123).
ALSO READ: Vuzu still negotiating for the broadcasting rights to The Secret Circle.
Sources told me last month that M-Net has snagged the new show about a group of small-town American teenagers discovering they're all witches and are slowly puzzling out their destiny and the death of their parents.
I was also told that although M-Net as a broadcaster got The Secret Circle, that the show won't be on Vuzu - the home of youth-skewing shows such as 90210 and The Vampire Diaries. An insider told me that The Secret Circle is earmarked for ... the M-Net channel (DStv 101) itself.
The placement of The Secret Circle - actually a youth show that won't be on Vuzu (remember M-Net strategy's introduced at the beginning of just last year to move all youth centred shows to Vuzu?) seems to already be something of the past.
Last month's shocking news that Glee - a youth show that used to be on M-Net and which moved to Vuzu is now suddenly moving to M-Net Series (DStv 110) indicates that the youth experiment might be over. Insiders told me Glee's viewership on Vuzu ''is not very good'' and that the show ''did not perform very well there''.
Also keep in mind that the M-Net channel inexplicably grabbed and scheduled Nikita - another youth show from the same CW network in America as The Secret Circle. If M-Net kept to its youth strategy, Nikita should rightly have been on Vuzu. It could be that M-Net is backtracking and once again interested in its own ''new'' youth timeslot. The Secret Circle could forseeably replace Nikita once it finishes its season, or possibly be placed elsewhere on the M-Net line-up.
Neither Vuzu, nor the M-Net channel has so far been willing to respond and officially confirm The Secret Circle acquisition and channel placement news.
