BREAKING. The longrunning medical drama House ending its run after 8 seasons in America in May.

The longrunning medical drama House with Hugh Laurie who played dr Gregory House will end its run in May at the conclusion of its 8th season, the Fox network in America just announced.

The show mostly became a victim of its own success, with House gradually becoming very expensive to produce due to salaries.

''While it's with much regret, and a lump in our throats, we respect the decision Hugh Laurie, David Shore [creator] and Katie Jacobs [executive producer] have made,'' Kevin Reilly, Fox entertainment president says in a statement announcing the news.

''A true original, on the page and amazingly brought to life by Hugh Laurie, there is only one Dr. House. For eight seasons, the entire House team has given us – and fans around the world – some of the most compelling characters and affecting stories ever seen on television.''

In a statement the producers said ''the decision to end the show now, or ever, is a painful one, as it risks putting asunder hundreds of close friendships that have developed over the last eight years — but also because the show itself has been a source of great pride to everyone involved."

The end of House makes a second season for Terra Nova - not yet renewed and also shown in America on the Fox network - more likely, given the lack of space on the programming schedule.

In South Africa House is seen on M-Net, M-Net Series and The Universal Channel.
