DStv Mobile unveils yet another new TV-watching device, the bigger-screen Walka Handheld TV.

DStv Mobile is branching out with another new product, the Walka Handheld TV, which will be available in the consumer market from 1 December at a price of R649.

Like the iPhone begat the iPad, the DStv Drifta device is leading to the Walka Handheld TV device, a black, slim and sturdy-looking lightweight flat device with a 3,5 inch viewing screen.

The Walka Handheld TV is a portable TV screen that requires no other devices to view television. ''Mobile TV viewing can begin the moment you switch it on,'' says Mark Rayner, the general manager for DStv Mobile which announced the news of the Walka Handheld TV this afternoon. He says the Walka Handheld TV devide is designed to further enrich the ''mobile TV viewing experience'' of DStv subscribers.

The Walka Handheld TV which has reception in the same areas as the DStv Drifta and where DStv Mobile currently has limited, but growing, coverage (which is mostly the big South African metropolitan areas) will show the same selection of DStv channels currently available on DStv Mobile, as well as the recently added M-Net Mobile channel.

The subscription to Walka Handheld TV is free to DStv Premium subscribers, and will cost R36 - the same as for the DStv Drifta - for non-DStv Premium subscribers.

''We anticipate that the Walka Handheld TV will be well received by the market and hope our subscribers find it as another useful way to stay in touch with DStv channels,'' says Mark Rayner in a press release.
