It's starting to look as if the very final guest of The Oprah Winfrey Show (weekdays, SABC3, 17:30)that will broadcast its final episode in America on 25 May will be none other than Oprah Winfrey herself.
In the June issue of America's O The Oprah Magazine Winfrey's best friend Gayle King interviews the iconic talk show host who gives a clue as to who her final guest will be and about the show's end after 25 years. Some excerpts of this revealing interview and cover story for the June issue has just been released and published by America's People magazine. I immediately asked, and Associated Magazines which is the local publisher of O The Oprah Magazine tells me that the article will also run in South Africa and will appear in the July issue of South Africa's O The Oprah Magazine, but that the cover might perhaps be different.
In Oprah Winfrey's answer as toher decision of who her final guest will be later this month - and a clue that it might be none other than herself - she says in an excerpt: ''It speaks to the essence of what the show has tried to say all these years: that you are not the product of your circumstances. You can step out of your history and create a new day for yourself. Even if the entire culture is saying: 'You can't. Even if every possible bad thing that can happen to you, does. You can keep going forward.''
In another except Oprah Winfrey says that if she cries in the final episode it will be because of the loyal audience who've watched her and stuck with her over the years. ''I genuinely feel appreciated and loved by this audience that has grown up with me. Which, for me, is a huge, huge, huge accomplishment. Because I grew up feeling the opposite of that,'' she says. ''When you see [my] tears on the last show, that's what those tears will be about. Those tears will not be about sadness.''
