BREAKING. Wikileaks: ''David Letterman: Agent of Influence'' in the Middle East - together with Fox News programming.
The Guardian in Britain (which is one of the 5 media partners of Wikileaks's latest set of confidential diplomatic cable revelations) has one that's entitled: ''David Letterman: Agent of Influence''. It details what American TV shows are liked by Saudi TV audiences and also includes a surprise . . . Fox News programming.
According to the cable (RIGHT HERE), shows such as Desperate Housewives (starting in January on M-Net), The Late Show with David Letterman (weekdays on Sony Entertainment Television, DStv 113) and Friends are broadcast uncensored and with Arabic subtitles as part of a ''war of ideas'' against extremists.
What's most interesting is that TV programming from the Fox News Channel (TopTV 405), a mostly conservative American news network cited for a somewhat anti-Islam agenda, are liked by Saudi viewers. The cable explains how Saudi media executives are telling an American official that Saudi Arabia like Fox News programming since they're interested in studying and learning about the United States.
The CBS Evening News and ABC World News bulletins are also popular. The Fox Movie Channel is also a free satellite channel and American movies shown on it often make for popular viewing.
