I broke the news RIGHT HERE on Wednesday that MultiChoice will be getting rid of Animax (DStv 126) at the end of October and MultiChoice just confirmed it.
As I've said, Animax will disappear from DStv's bouquet at the end of October because it didn't live up to MultiChoice's stringent viewer performance appraisals over the past three years. However, MultiChoice will be replacing Animax after its axed it with another channel in 2011.
''MultiChoice would like to advise its subscribers that Animax which has been airing on DStv channel 126, will go off the air as of Sunday, October 31 2010 at 23:25,'' the pay TV operator says about Animax's termination.
''The channel is going off the air because the Japanese anime genre that was featured on Animax didn't attract the broad viewing audience that MultiChoice had targeted. Channel 126 will be reserved for a new channel from Sony Pictures Television which will launch in February 2011. The new channel will retain some of the very popular live action and reality-based programmes that were popular on Animax.''
''In order to appeal to a broader audience, the new channel will focus on action-oriented movies, game shows, series and reality programmes,'' says MultiChoice.
