BREAKING. BBC Knowledge on DStv to broadcast the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton live on 29 April.

You're reading it here first.

I can exclusively break the news that BBC Knowledge (DStv 251) will broadcast the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton live on Friday, 29 April in Africa and South Africa with the live broadcast that will happening on the BBC Entertainment channel elsewhere in the world (including Asia, Indian, Latin America and the Middle East).

''The Royal Wedding provides a special opportunity to bring together our local channels around the world for a truly global viewing event,'' says Jana Bennett, president of BBC Worldwide Networks and Global iPlayer. ''William and Catherine's big day has captured the imagination of audiences around the world and I am proud that for the first time, millions of BBC Entertainment and BBC Knowledge viewers in Africa, Asia, India, Latin America, the Middle East and Europe can join together to watch the day unfold.''

BBC presenter Huw Edwards will lead the BBC Royal Wedding coverage on BBC Knowledge, together with Misal Husain on the 24 hour news channel BBC World News. ''I am delighted with the news and consider it a great honour to play a part in what I am sure will be a huge national celebration,'' says Huw Edwards.

The live broadcast on BBC Knowledge of the Royal Wedding means that the line-up of the documentaries I told you about last month planned for BBC Knowledge might now change. Some other documentaries might be added but could include a retrospective of royal weddings throughout the decades, a look into the historic House of Windsor, the story of Prince William and Catherine Middleton's relationship from their initial meeting at St. Andrews University to today and a documentary that takes a closer look at Prince Charles' work and causes.
