Pastor Mboro's new show, Incredible Happenings, fails to start on ANN7 as he slams Mzwanele Manyi's channel as 'still having something to do with the Guptas'.

The controversial pastor Paseka "Mboro" Motsoeneng's touted new gospel show, Incredible Happenings, on ANN7 (DStv 405) failed to start on Sunday as promised, with Motsoeneng saying he pulled his show at the last minute since ANN7 is still linked with the controversial Gupta family.

ANN7 that will be going dark on DStv after MultiChoice decided to dump the channel in August, suddenly wants to add non-news shows like Incredible Happenings, changing the channel's contractual value proposition - what it is supposed to broadcast - to viewers.

Mzwanele Manyi is the new owner of ANN7 where disgruntled staffers struggled to get paid at the end of February.

Pastor Mboro said he pulled his show after discovering that ANN7 is still linked to the Guptas.

"My relationship with ANN7 started when I was approached to produce a show for the station. It was supposed to start on Sunday but there were issues I wasn't happy with since I discovered its history with the Guptas."

"They are still with the channel. When I realised it still had something to do with the Guptas and after failing to meet top manager Mzwanele Manyi, I felt I couldn't go on air."

ANN7 in a statement on Monday evening entitled "communication breakdown delays launch of new gospel show", said that "in response to pastor Paseka "Mboro" Motsoeneng's statement, ANN7 management can confirm that a meeting was held on Monday to clarify certain matters relating to an agreement to air his gospel show".

"The channel management had a successful and progressive meeting with the pastor and agreed to work together in executing the project. The meeting agreed that there was a breakdown of communication."

"Pastor Mboro's main concern relates to the inherent channel's historical matters such as trading names and the existing brand names. It is common knowledge that the media companies (ANN7 and The New Age) have recently been bought from the Gupta family-owned Oakbay Investments, there are old archives that have Gupta history and this has caused confusion in taking this project forward".

ANN7 said "Mzwanele Manyi agreed with Motsoeneng and committed the channel to continue working on the project under strict supervision".

No new possible starting date about Incredible Happenings were provided.

On Monday evening NBCUniversal International Networks held a media screening event in Johannesburg for the American drama series Colony starting on the Universal Channel (DStv 117) on Mondays at 20:00.

NBCUniversal revealed that the second season of Colony will follow seamlessly after the conclusion of the first season of this dystopian/police state drama with Josh Holloway and Sarah Wayne Callies in the lead roles.

A lot of effort was put into making a beautiful experience and creating a wonderful media screening environment at The Venue in Melrose Arch where media and journalists covering television, MultiChoice programming executives, and TV talent sipped on sparking wine and were served a diverse range of snacks.

Media guests tucked into jalapeno poppers with sour cream, smoked salmon and cream cheese, smoked lamb cubes, chicken, squid ink pasta with smoked prawns, sushi rolls and beef teriyaki stir-fry.

Dessert was beautiful purple blueberry cake pops.

The Cape Town radio presenter Bailey Schneider was the master of ceremonies for the Colony press screening and Sarah Wayne Callies skyped in from Lisbon to answer questions from the press.

Odessa Swarts next to leave Dancing with the Stars SA on M-Net: ‘I discovered I’m way stronger that I gave myself credit for.’

On Sunday night the athletic coach and mom to Wayde van Niekerk, Odessa Swarts, became the third celebrity contestant to be voted out of Dancing with the Stars SA on M-Net (DStv 101), saying she discovered she’s stronger than what she thought.

TVwithThinus spoke to Odessa Swarts who shares what the dancing experience has been like for her, the footprints she’s leaving behind, and how being a part of the show changed her.

Is there anything that you think you could have done differently?

No, I really don’t there is anything I could have done differently. I came into this competition, and I prayed about it, and I asked the Lord to take me into this journey as long as I needed to be here and this is how far the Lord wants me to go, so I am happy with everything that has rolled out the way it did. I really don’t have any regrets.

What has the experience been like for you?

It’s been an amazing journey. I’ve met so many amazing people and I mean, each and every person that is on Dancing with the Stars SA is leaving a footprint in my life. They all brought something to my life and I’ve learnt from each and every one of them. And I leave this show knowing that I’m leaving a legacy behind, knowing that I’ve also left my footprints in Dancing with the Stars SA.

You’ve also been an athlete and you’re an athletics coach but dancing is still a different physically challenge. How has it been to thrown at the deep end in this type of a competition?

Well Dancing with the Stars SA has really been one of the toughest things I’ve ever done in my life. [ha ha.] I think running is much easier! Having to learn all of these different dances, different moves; and each move has a different name and each dance has a different name – dancing is one of the hardest things and I have so much respect for professional dancers now. It takes a lot from you, your body takes so much strain, and not just physically, but mentally as well – it’s tough, tough, tough.

How do you feel about being voted out?

I’m not sad that I’ve been voted out. Like I’ve said I prayed about it and I asked the Lord to keep me in the show as long as He needed me to be. I know that I made a different in some people’s lives. And my mission was to try and make a difference in just one person’s life and I think I’ve made a difference is more than one person’s life.

What did you enjoy the most?

Being part of this show. What I enjoyed most was learning how to dance, and how to learn a new dance each and every week. I enjoyed that the most. I walked away every Sunday knowing that I conquered a new dance.

And what was the hardest for you would you say?

The hardest was the elimination round every Sunday. It was the hardest part – standing there and not knowing what’s happening.

How did the show change your body physically?

Dancing with the Stars SA has transformed my body. It’s like I said, I never knew dancing is that hard. I would sit Sundays and the sweat would drip down my face and I mean it was no diet or anything. It’s all just dancing and my body has transformed so much and dancing really tones your body as well. You really feel good looking at yourself after a couple of weeks of Dancing with the Stars SA.

What did you not expect about this journey?

I didn’t expect that I would be sad leaving people behind. Because when I walked into the competition it was all unknown people and now having to leave my partner [Dylon Daniels] behind – it saddens me because I looked forward to walking a long journey with him, but it wasn’t meant to be. So I’m quite sad about having to leave him behind.

What did you learn about yourself?

I discovered that I’m way stronger that I gave myself credit for.

'We are independent, we are impartial. And this is how the SABC is going to practice our news gathering," says Phathiswa Magopeni, the SABC's new head of news and current affairs.

And this is how the SABC is going to practice our news gathering, our dissemination and our processing of news."

Phathiswa Magopeni was interviewed on Sunday morning by Ashraf Garda on SAfm's The Media Show and said "it's important for me that I speak the truth" and mentioned that the SABC's newsroom operations will be reviewed as a matter of urgency to enable greater news gathering integration at the public broadcaster.

On why she decided to ditch eNCA (DStv 403) and move to the SABC as the South African public broadcaster's latest head of news and current affairs, she said "the public interest made the call. I've been here, before, in fact, I started here."

"I've always been attracted to public broadcasting. For me the reason that I'm here, it stems from what happened in the recent past with issues around editorial independence at the SABC."

"Sitting on the other side I was thinking: There's something to be done there. And it was a necessary call to be made".

"This entity belongs to the South African public," said Phathiswa Magopeni. "This is a very crucial and precious resource of the South African public and it has to deliver on its mandate as enshrined in the Broadcasting Act."

"[Me] being here is about strengthening that mandate," she said and noted that the SABC in its editorial news approach needs to remain impartial.

Phathiswa Magopeni, when asked what she makes of the current state of the SABC's news, she said "it's not as bad as people make it. You can tell here that there are professionals, who are committed to their work. All we need to do is to fix the environment because it's the physical spaces and the psychological spaces that have impacted on how people do their work. That's exactly what I'm going to be working on. It is my responsibility to fix that and deal with it."

She said "each journalist within the SABC will have to do introspection, in the way you decide what to broadcast, and what you include in your stories. So that requires us to interrogate our own prejudices, our allegiances and our own stereotypical."

"I'm going to deal with the newsroom issues and I'm going to deal with how journalists work," said Phathiswa Magopeni.

"It is important for me to state what the SABC's editorial position is upfront: We are independent, we are impartial. And this is how the SABC is going to practice our news gathering, our dissemination and our processing of news."

"SABC News is here to serve the public interest, there is no ambiguity about what we need to do," she said, adding that the SABC "is going to take viewer and listener feedback because they are our primary stakeholder. We are going to listen to the public and we are going to try and see if we can work towards what we are meant to do".

"From an operational point of view we're looking at having an integrated SABC newsroom. We're looking at having a single SABC news platform. What I'm trying to get to do is staying away from defining ourselves based on what platforms do - like radio, or it's digital, or it's TV. People don't come to us for that."

"They don't come to buy TV sets from us. They come to us for our news content, so we're going to have to make sure that our platforms are integrated and that we are able to deliver a socially driven product that has consciounce".

"The idea of having an editorial meeting for radio, an editorial meeting for TV and an editorial meeting elsewhere that's going to deal with digital platforms, that's going to be reviewed. We need to have a central point where we need with our content."

Phathiswa Magopeni said the SABC's news division isn't eNCA and that SABC News has a different mandate and is a different platform.

"We have a big scope to cover. It's going to limit us if we mimic what they [eNCA] do because we have resources, we have a large footprint in the country. If we're going to do what they do, we're going to limit our own ability in terms in what South Africans require. So we're going to play our own game."

She said "I know sometimes I will say things that make people uncomfortable but you get what I'm trying to communicate to you. I'm always considerate in the way that I communicate things, but I will not compromise who I am and what I think because I'm trying to please you or make you comfortable."

"So it's important for me that I speak the truth," said Phathiswa Magopeni.

SABC makes yet another Cyril Ramaphosa blunder, as SABC News presidential correspondent Mzwandile Mbeje calls him 'president Zuma'.

The SABC's spate of on-air news errors regarding president Cyril Ramaphosa continues with the SABC News journalist Mzwandile Mbeje who on Friday referred to Cyril Ramaphosa's during his trip to Angola as former president "Jacob Zuma".

The SABC News anchor Peter Ndoro just returned this past Monday after "taking a break to rest" after erroneously telling SABC News viewers on the SABC airwaves that president Cyril Ramaphosa had passed away.

This week Cyril Ramaphosa was on a 3-nation trop in the SADC region and kicked it off in Luanda, Angola on Friday where he met the Angolan president João Lourenço.

"We can see president Zuma, and his counterpart from Angola ..." said Mzwandile Mbeje., although viewers saw Cyril Ramaphosa.

Mzwandile Mbeje is the SABC's presidential correspondent.

Last month the SABC's SABC News division yet again erred in the Venda news bulletin on SABC2 when the Venda news reader suddenly made reference to "Jacob Ramaphosa" during a story about former president Jacob Zuma and Nkandla.

The former E! presenter Catt Sadler who left E! (DStv 124) in late-2017 after she discovered that E! and NBCUniversal was paying her less by almost half for the same work as her co-presenter Jason Kennedy, is slamming E! for firing the veteran red carpet producer Aileen Gram-Morino who failed to censor a clip of Eva Longoria calling out E! on E!' during its Golden Globe red carpet coverage about its unequal pay practices.

Amidst Hollywood's #MeToo movement and controversy swirling around Ryan Seacrest with allegations of sexual harassment that's not going away, The New York Times reports that E! fired producer Aileen Gram-Moreno for not properly sanitising and censoring E!'s coverage of celebrities like Eva Longoria who at the Golden Globe awards called E! out over its trash treatment of Catt Sadler.

Aileen Gram-Moreno says she was supposed to prevent clips from being broadcast on the NBCUniversal channel that was seen globally - including South Africa and Africa, of other stars and Eva Longoria who at the Golden Globe awards said "We support gender equity and equal pay. And we hope that E! follows the lead with Catt as well. We stand with you, Catt."

Aileen Gram-Moreno says that after Debra Messing sharply criticised E! over its unequal pay with Catt Sadler, E! executives told her to scan all interviews before broadcast to "weed out" any further mentions of Catt Sadler.

"The said, if there's any mention of Catt Sadler in the preshow, make sure you flag it. Aileen Gram-Moreno told The New York Times that E! is "censoring celebrities; it’s just not a good idea in my humble opinion. But it wasn’t my decision."

Aileen Gram-Moreno in her complaints says she was fired 5 days after the Golden Globes from all upcoming shows she had been booked for, including the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the Grammys and the Oscars. "No-one discussed the issue with me before making the decision to terminate me."

Adam Stotsky, E! president, admitted to The New York Times that E! pre-screened and wanted to know ahead of time about any Catt Sadler mentions and said "We don’t agree with Debra Messing’s assertion" and that E! "is not in the business of being a megaphone for an inaccurate story."

Adam Stotsky told The New York Times that Aileen Gram-Moreno was fired because "of a pattern of poor performance".

Weirdly E! and NBCUniversal never once in the past 12 years complained about Aileen Gram-Moreno's work, and actually gave her a performance -based raise 5 years ago.

E! in a statement says "For the past decade Aileen Gram-Moreno was a freelancer who worked an average of 20 days per year solely for our red carpet coverage. After the Golden Globes, she was asked not to return due to job performance issues. Following an attempt to force E! to pay for her silence Aileen Gram-Moreno is now spreading misleading and inaccurate information."

In a statement Catt Sadler slams E! for firing Aileen Gram-Moreno, saying "It's disappointing that any network would order the censorship of opinions."

"But it's particularly disturbing in this case because we are at a cultural tipping point where women feel more and more comfortable being vocal about issues like pay equality and sexual misconduct. To shut down those conversations is to stifle progress," says Catt Sadler.

Johnny Clegg and son Jesse to perform together on Sunday's Dancing with the Stars SA on M-Net in a once-a-lifetime live performance.

The music legend Johnny Clegg who embarked on a final global tour this year to say goodbye to his fans while fighting pancreatic cancer and his son Jesse Clegg will be performing together live for the first time ever on a reality television show stage during Sunday's episode of Dancing with the Stars SA on M-Net (DStv 101) at 17:00.

"We are incredibly honoured to have Johnny and Jesse on the show," says Lani Lombard, M-Net's head of publicity.

"We know that it will be a very special personal moment for them and having Johnny on the programme is also our way to thank a true legend for his immense contribution to our music industry. We invite all our viewers to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime performance."

During the two-hour live Dancing With The Stars SA extravaganza the dancing couples will be challenged to put their best foot forward to show the internationally acclaimed judges and the voting public how they mastered new dancing styles.

This week the stakes are even higher as they all want their technique and storytelling on the dance floor to do justice to the music of Mi Casa, Freshly Ground, Mango Groove, Goodluck, Black Coffee, Laurika Rauch, Miriam Makeba, and Cassper Nyovest. 

The singer and songwriter Connell Cruise and his dancing partner Marcella Solimeo are ready to tackle the style that put screen and stage personality Frank Opperman and Jeanné Swart at the bottom of the leader board last week – the jive.

Adam Stotsky, E! president, admitted to The New York Times that E! pre-screened and wanted to know ahead of time about any Catt Sadler mentions and said "We don’t agree with Debra Messing’s assertion" and that E! "is not in the business of being a megaphone for an inaccurate story."

Adam Stotsky told The New York Times that Aileen Gram-Moreno was fired because "of a pattern of poor performance".

Weirdly E! and NBCUniversal never once in the past 12 years complained about Aileen Gram-Moreno's work, and actually gave her a performance -based raise 5 years ago.

E! in a statement says "For the past decade Aileen Gram-Moreno was a freelancer who worked an average of 20 days per year solely for our red carpet coverage. After the Golden Globes, she was asked not to return due to job performance issues. Following an attempt to force E! to pay for her silence Aileen Gram-Moreno is now spreading misleading and inaccurate information."

Aileen Gram-Moreno’s attorney, Katherine Atkinson in a statement says "In the 12 years Aileen has been working on red carpet shows for E! they never once raised a performance issue."

"That is a convenient excuse for covering up attempts to silence women speaking out. Employers often attack women speaking out about discrimination - so I am disappointed in E! but not surprised."

"E! can’t have it both ways. They support their position that they were not censoring references to Catt Sadler by pointing to the Eva Longoria interview. But they fired my client for failing to censor that very interview."

"If you attempt to censor, and then fire the person for not catching the speech you intended to censor for letting it go through, you can’t then claim that you aren’t so bad after all because you 'let' it air. Their argument defies logic."
