Programming note: History shifts The Kennedys mini-series slighty to a new starting date on 6 March 2012 at 20:30 for South Africa.

History (DStv 254) is moving the high-quality mini-series The Kennedys from 3 March to 6 March at 20:30, with the 8 part drama that's based on the real-life story of America's famous first family in the 60s that will rather play out on Tuesdays from March next year.

The Kennedys, filmed in Toronto and produced by Muse Entertainment Enterprises, has Greg Kinnear as John F. Kennedy, Barry Pepper as Robert F. Kennedy, Katie Holmes as Jacqueline Kennedy and Tom Wilkinson as Joseph Kennedy Sr.

The show that has won 3 Emmys starts on election day in 1960 in America with senator John F. Kennedy pitted against vice president Richard Nixon in the televised debates that would prove so crucial in winning the race to the White House.

The Kennedys relives the public and private joys and tragedies of this influential family in during a tumultuous time for American politics which also retells the political crises of the disastrous Bay of Pigs invasion, the Cuban Missile Crisis that brought the world to the brink of nuclear war, and the Civil Rights Movement. The Kennedys of course also deals with the assassinations of JFK and RFK.

BREAKING. The splendid 8 part docudrama The Kennedys to come to South African viewers on History from 3 March 2012.

You're reading it here first.

Although there's no official word, I can exclusively break the news that the exceptionally well-done drama mini-series The Kennedys is coming to South African TV screens and History (DStv 254) from March 2012.

In February I broke the news RIGHT HERE that History has snagged the ''controversial'' mini-series with Greg Kinnear  as John F. Kennedy and Katie Holmes as Jacqueline Kennedy but nobody wanted to talk about it. The show was ''controversial'' earlier this year in America pre-broadcast with word that The Kennedys were not happy. Then a niche TV channel in America, Reelz, bought it, showed it, and critics remarked how exceptionally well-done the 8 part show is.

Although no confirmation and no official word as yet, TV with Thinus can break the news that DStv subscribers will be able to tune in for The Kennedys and this engrossing, quality drama based on the real-life story of America's first family in the 60s from Saturday 3 March 2012 when it will start on History.

BREAKING. History snags the controversial new 8 part American mini-series The Kennedys.

History (DStv 254) has acquired the rights to a brand-new 8 part mini-series America simply refused to see and will probably show The Kennedys starring Greg Kinnear and Katie Holmes in April in South Africa.

America's History shockingly dumped the completed production costing millions of dollars after pressure from the Kennedys, with the producers who then tried various TV channels who all passed. Ealier this week a small 4 year old channel Reelz picked up the rights.

Britain's History, run in conjunction between AETN and BSkyB has now picked up the 8 part show for the international market and just cleared it in 30 territories, which means it will most probably be shown in South Africa from April. Greg Kinnear plays John F. Kennedy, Katie Holmes stars as Jacqueline Kennedy and the docudrama apparently doesn't shy away from the less than flattering personal tumultuous lives of the Kennedy dynasty.

I asked DStv and History for the broadcasting date and time of The Kennedys in South Africa. ''Unfortunately History cannot comment on your query at this time,'' I'm told.
