Two big African award shows - CNN International's one for journalists and Viacom Africa's one for artists - both scrapped for 2017.
Two of Africa's biggest awards shows - CNN and MultiChoice's prestigious one for African journalists and MTV Africa's one for musicians and achievers - have both been scrapped for the year and won't be taking place.
Both the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards 2017 from CNN International (DStv 401) that culminates in an awards show celebrating the best of pan-African journalism, and Viacom International Media Networks Africa's (VIMN Africa) 2017 MTV Africa Music Awards that celebrates African musicians and achievers, won't be taking place this year.
Both the CMAJAs and the MAMAs usually take place in October, and both CNN and MultiChoice, as well as Viacom Africa, say they remain committed to their respective competitions and glitzy award shows although both are taking a break.
It's sad news for the African continent's journalists and artists whose best work for 2016/2017 won't be recognised and celebrated.
Specific reasons for this year's no-shows have not been given by the organisers, leading to speculation that a lack of big and enough sponsors are to blame for the continent's creatives losing out.
CNN International and MultiChoice have called the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards the "most prestigious and respected award for journalists across the African continent", honouring the best in journalism.
The competition held over the past two decades have seen the number of entries grow rapidly every year as it fostered respect and understanding for journalists and their important work, something that's very often a dangerous and thankless job in Africa.
The CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards also served as an incentive for various African nations to improve their press freedom laws as they vied to be a host country, gave valuable exposure to a country's local tourism as a large group of journalists from across the continent would annually descend on a specific country, and provided an economic boost for the host city putting up the awards show.
2017 would have marked the 22nd time that African journalists in print, online, radio and television across Africa would have entered this competition, with winners who get cash prizes and the overall winner getting the chance to visit CNN Headquarters in Atlanta and participating in the CNN Journalism Fellowship.
In a joint response CNN and MultiChoice Africa confirmed that the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards that took place in South Africa and various African countries over alternating years and broadcast on CNN International (DStv 401), is not happening again this year.
"CNN and MultiChoice are currently reviewing the format of the African Journalist Awards. We are committed to supporting and celebrating journalism across the continent, and we will share details as soon as we are ready," they said in a statement in response to a media enquiry.
The MTV Africa Music Awards that last year moved from Durban to Johannesburg for the first time and that have struggled to finally get the South African comedian Trevor Noah on stage as host for the awards show broadcast on MTV Base and e.tv, says the MAMAs needs collaboration from Africa's entertainment biz to work.
It means that this year's African music stars and those who made the most impact on youth culture on the African continent won't get their due from the MAMAs this year.
"At Viacom International Media Networks Africa we have been working to reinvent the MAMAs to create a deeper music experience that will be more immersive for our fans and partners in 2018," says VIMN Africa in response to a media enquiry.
"The campaign will continue to be fully reflective of the continent's great music and lifestyle that is shaping the continent."
"The MTV Africa Music Awards requires collaboration with the industry, partners and broadcasters to bring this world class event to life."
VIMN Africa says "it is important to emphasize that allthe great music that has emerged during the period from the last MAMAs and the next, will be recognised for accolades."
"Curtain call" for the Royalty Soapie Awards
After two years of not happening, South Africa's Royalty Soapie Awards also initially confused by announcing a "curtain call" - industry lingo meaning an end to things.
The PR company that issued the statement actually meant that the Royalty Soapie Awards is being revived for a 2018 awards show after it was last held in 2015.
The awards show celebrating South African TV operas and their production companies and that has been beset by problems in the past, will be taking place for a third time on 17 March 2018 at the Durban International Convention Centre, promising a "new and improved event" and "a night that will never be forgotten".
"We are excited to be back and the awards event promises to deliver more shimmer and shine than ever before," says Winnie Ntshaba, the Royalty Soapie Awards CEO.
The awards show said it's establishing the Royalty Soapie Foundation (RSF) to help young South Africans from poor communities and rural areas to gain skills in the country's film and TV industry.

BREAKING. Royalty Soapie Awards 2015 announces nominees; SABC1's Generations and kykNET's Binnelanders shut out.
Notable changes include Mzansi Magic coming aboard as a sponsor this year of the Royalty Soapie Awards 2015 which has largely shut out SABC1's Generations, e.tv which removed both it's soaps last year allowing its soaps Rhythm City and Scandal! to take part, and bigger public voting paticipation with viewers who will get to have a say in the winner of several categories.
Generations on SABC1 which used to be South Africa's biggest and most watched soap in terms of ratings before its massive fall from grace as well in the ratings and now called Generations - The Legacy - was largely shut out in the nominations.
e.tv also allowed its Rhythm City and Scandal! to take part this year.
"After having numerous meetings with the organisers, we emerged with a better sense of the objectives of the awards," said Monde Twala, e.tv's head of channels. "e.tv has two of the most loved soaps with talented casts, who deserve recognition for their performance".
SABC2's Venda soap Muvhango only scored one nomination, with kykNET's (DStv 144) Afrikaans soap Binnelanders completely absent and shut out from this year's Royalty Soapie Awards although Villa Rosa is included.
This year viewers will get to vote for the winner in several categories in the Royalty Soapie Awards which include Outstanding Lead Actor, Outstanding Lead Actress, Outstanding Male Villain, Outstanding Female Villain, Outstanding Supporting Actor, Outstanding Supporting Actress, Outstanding Newcomer and Most Popular Soapie.
Notably no Generations or Binnelanders stars are included as nominees in any of these categories.
The nominee with the highest number of votes in each category will be the winner. Viewers can vote from 19 February to 20 March.
"The Royalty Soapie Awards hold a mirror to the industry, revealing the status of the sector on screen and behind the scenes, and they provide much to reflect upon," says Sindile Xulu, project director.
"The final outcomes will reflect industry sentiment and benefit all by encouraging healthy competition and ultimately assisting in growing the quality of our productions," says Sindile Xulu.
"Any awards ceremony is a good thing for the industry, Vinette Ebrahim from SABC2's 7de Laan, nominated in the category for Outstanding Lead Actress, told TV with Thinus on Thursday.
"Something like the Royalty Soapie Awards is important for the platform it creates to recognise the work of actors and technical people working in the industry. It gives recognition to people for their hard work," said Theodore Jantjies from SABC2's 7de Laan, nominated in the category for Outstanding Lead Actor.
"Actors always appreciate these kinds of awards because in showbiz we work at a tremendous pace, so you don't get time to think about it. So its a moment to stop and reflect and for crews and casts to get some recognition. So I'm thankful for the Royalty Soapie Awards for bringing some extra spice," said Izak Davel from SABC3's Isidingo, nominated in the category for Outstanding Newcomer.
"We have so many soapies and telenovelas now. The more serious the industry takes itself as a specific genre, then that actually unfolds in the creation of more shows. In South Africa the soapie genre is our Hollywood, and its time that it gets its recognition," said Kgomotso Christopher from SABC3's Isidingo, nominated in the category for Outstanding Lead Actress.
"Our soapie stars are the A-list stars and it is about time that they had a platform for themselves to be recognised and not to be diluted within the larger industry."
The nominees for the 2015 Royalty Soapie Awards for which viewers can vote, are:
Outstanding Lead Actor
Motlatsi Mafatshe as Sechaba in Isidingo
Siyabonga Thwala as Mpiyakhe in Isibaya

Mzansi Magic picks up The Royalty Soapie Awards 2015, soap awards ceremony moving away from the SABC to a pay-TV channel.
Goodbye SABC. I can break the news and reveal that M-Net's Mzansi Magic (DStv 161) has picked up the broadcasting rights to the Royalty Soapie Awards 2015.
Mzansi Magic will be the broadcast partner of the Royalty Soapie Awards set to take place for a second year, later this year, after a difficult first try in 2014.
In 2014 the SABC showed the first Royalty Soapie Awards more than a month after it already took place in March 2014 and dumped the broadcast of the Royalty Soapie Awards on SABC1 in a late-night timeslot just before the Easter weekend in April.
The SABC was probably unhappy with having to promote M-Net and Mzansi Magic's popular Isibaya soap which won the most awards during the awards evening aimed at honouring soap and telenovela productions.
There was further controversy since e.tv pulled both its soaps Rhythm City and Scandal! from the first Royalty Soapie Awards, citing a lack of transparency over the voting and judging process, with the organisers refusing to reveal who are actually judging the awards.
There was further controversy since e.tv pulled both its soaps Rhythm City and Scandal! from the first Royalty Soapie Awards, citing a lack of transparency over the voting and judging process, with the organisers refusing to reveal who are actually judging the awards.
Now the Royalty Soapie Awards 2015 has found a new TV home.
It instantly raises questions as to whether SABC soaps - like the new Generations The Legacy - will not only feature, but whether its soap stars will appear (or be allowed to appear), walking the red carpet and accepting awards should some of the public broadcaster's soaps win.
The Royalty Soapie Awards was started in 2013 as a new genre-specific awards ceremony set to honour soap opera television in South Africa, but behind-the-scenes infighting between the organisers Winnie Modise and Sindile Zulu, as well as other problems, saw it postponed to 2014.

BREAKING. There will be no TV broadcast of Royalty Soapie Awards on SABC1, says the SABC; after organisers promised it would be shown Sunday.
TV with Thinus can break the news and reveal that there will definitely be no broadcast of the Royalty Soapie Awards on Sunday on SABC1 although the organisers of the awards, Winnie Modise and Sindile Zulu promised viewers that the Saturday ceremony would be broadcast on SABC1 on Sunday at 20:30.
TV with Thinus reported on Wednesday that there is ongoing uncertainty and confusion regarding the broadcast of the Royalty Soapie Awards, the latest in a string of backstage problems and drama of the embattled soap awards finally taking place on Saturday (today) in Durban at the Durban International Convention Centre.
While the organisers adamantly maintained that the SABC and SABC1 would broadcast the Royalty Soapie Awards with hosts Michael Mol and Hlomla Dandala on Sunday, it is simply not true.
SABC insiders said no agreement was made with the organisers to broadcast the Royalty Soapie Awards on Sunday night on SABC1.
A spokesperson from the publicity company working on behalf of the award show on Saturday morning told TV with Thinus in response to a media enquiry that the Royalty Soapie Awards will "issue an official statement with comment from SABC1" at a later time.
The SABC told TV with Thinus on Saturday that there will be zero Royalty Soapie Awards shown on Sunday on SABC1. It's highly embarrassing since the organisers had already told viewers to tune in on Sunday to watch it, and no new statement or announcement that it won't be the case was made before the end of business on Friday.
There will now definitely be disgruntled viewers who are possibly going to tune in, expecting an awards show instead of a movie, and finding no Royalty Soapie Awards on television as promised.
The trouble-plagued and seemingly disorganised Royalty Soapie Awards saw e.tv pull its soaps from consideration last year, and the organisers refused to say who the judges of the industry event are. The organisers are still not willing to say who judges who (although several judges' names are an open industry secret).
There was also drama behind-the-scenes which saw venture partner Lala Tuku back out and the Royalty Soapie Awards moved from its November 2013 date to March 2014.
Zero information was made available to the press regarding who will appear or perform at the Royalty Soapie Awards, what the style and format of Saturday's ceremony would entail, who would be doing red carpet coverage and there's been no pre-awards press conference before the end of Friday, which is usually organised for events of this type.

BREAKING. Confusion, uncertainty of whether the Royalty Soapie Awards will actually be broadcast on SABC1 on Sunday.
After multiple delays, e.tv's soaps being pulled from consideration, zero information regarding who the judges are and backstage drama between the organizers which saw venture partner Lala Tuku back out, the Royalty Soapie Awards was moved from its November 2013 date to March 2014 at the Durban International Convention Centre.
The Royalty Soapie Awards organised by Winnie Modise is finally set to take place on Saturday 8 March in the same city as this past Saturday's 13th Metro FM Awards which was shown on SABC1 on Saturday as a live broadcast and which suffered from terrible production values.
The Royalty Soapie Awards takes place on exactly the same date and time as M-Net and MultiChoice's continental 2nd AfricaMagic Viewers' Choice Awards.
According to the organisers the Royalty Soapie Awards with hosts Michael Mol and Hlomla Dandala, will be shown on SABC1 a day later on Sunday 9 March at 20:30.
SABC1 says it will not broadcast the Royalty Soapie Awards and has the movie Lake City scheduled.
With three days to the actual event and four days to the would-be broadcast date, the SABC on Wednesday told TV with Thinus that "we are waiting for the agreement to be finalised between the SABC and the organisers". The SABC said that a statement will only be made "once the agreement is in place".
A spokesperson for the Royalty Soapie Awards organisers told TV with Thinus that they however have confirmation from the SABC that the Royalty Soapie Awards will be shown on SABC1 on Sunday at 20:30.
Sindile Xulu, Royalty Soapie Awards project director says the organisers are "thrilled to have the awards show broadcast made accessible to the widest possible audience" on SABC1.

Michael Mol, Hlomla Dandala named as hosts for the Royalty Soapie Awards now set for 8 March 2014.
Michael Mol and Hlomla Dandala will be the hosts of the Royalty Soapie Awards which has now been moved to the new date of 8 March 2014 at the Durban International Convention Centre in Durban.
The Royalty Soapie Awards will likely be broadcast on SABC1 but it's not yet clear whether it will be a live broadcast or be shown at a later date.
The Royalty Soapie Awards - not representative of South African TV soap opera industry since broadcasters such as M-Net and e.tv are not allowing some of their soaps to be voted for - caught flack from the TV industry for the way it's organised, for judges being kept secret, and broadcasters saying they don't know and have not been told how the judging works.
The list of soaps in the category for Most Popular Soap which viewers vote for, excludes certain TV soap which makes it a hollow, credibility-less victory for whichever soap wins.
The new awards show production has also already seen its fair share of drama behind the scenes.

A ROYALTY MESS. Royalty Soapie Awards jettisons 2 November awards ceremony in Durban; postpones it to sometime in first quarter of 2014.
The Royalty Soapie Awards' PR company released a prepared statement about the Royalty Soapie Awards' postponement - without giving a new date - at exactly midnight on Saturday night before the Sunday tabloids splashed about the news.
The Royalty Soapie Awards apparently couldn't sign a South African broadcaster to broadcast the event of 2 November on time, as it is trying to hammer out a deal with the SABC's SABC1 channel.
Questions have been swirling around the Royalty Soapie Awards, organised by Generations' actress Winnie Modise since earlier this year when it splashily announced a September announcement of nominees which didn't materialise.
Meanwhile many in the local TV industry are clueless about the judges since the awards show refuses to release any names; people are uncertain about how the awards works; and Lala Tuku, Winnie Modise's partner to start the awards ceremony, is no longer involved and backed out.
There's been other delays as well and big concerns from the South African TV industry. It saw e.tv pull its local soaps such as Rhythm City and Scandal! and pay-TV broadcaster M-Net also snubbed it by keeping Inkaba and Zabalaza out of categories.
According to the TV industry this voids the credibility of the Royalty Soapie Awards if it doesn't have 100% representation of what is purports to give industry awards to. Business, including the South African TV industry and soap productions, need predictability and abhors uncertainty.
In the statement, the Royalty Soapie Awards, now claiming the beginning of 2014 is better because the calendar is less crowded and that it is jettisoning its 2 November date in Durban for a new, unannounced date in the 2014, says "the inaugural awards ceremony focusing on television soap opera will now take place in the first quarter of 2014".
"The first quarter of the year is an ideal time and fairly uncluttered from an entertainment point of view and is a fantastic time to visit Durban as it falls outside of the peak holiday season," says Sindile Xulu, Royalty Soapie Awards project director.
The statement doesn't explain why the organisers - wanting to do a professional industry event - didn't know of, were not aware of, or didn't have or make use of professionals to calendarise and inform the organisers of this back in June when the Royalty Soapie Awards and the dates were announced.
Also not clear is why soap actors and TV soap crew would eevn care about whether they have to show in or out of peak season at Durban's International Convention Centre - doing an awards show appearance is part of publicity work for productions and not for stars to holiday.
The Royalty Soapie Awards now plan to announce the finalists in the acting categories on 23 October. Voting for the non-inclusive list of soaps for the "Most Popular Soapie" award has been announced as now starting on 2 November although people wanting to vote for certain soaps won't be able to do so.

e.tv on pulling its soaps from the Royalty Soapie Awards: 'To be blunt: They just think they can just put up an event and use our brands.'
e.tv has some stern words for the Royalty Soapie Awards from which the free-to-air commercial broadcaster has pulled both its soaps Rhythm City and Scandal! citing big concerns, with Monde Twala, e.tv's group head of channels telling TV with Thinus in an interview that the Royalty Soapie Awards "don't seem organised to the extent where they're able to give us enough information".

ALSO READ: Royalty Soapie Awards: "It's a pity that e.tv did not allow their soaps to enter"; "judges only revealed at the winners' announcement ceremony".
"These guys are not clear," Monde Twala tells TV with Thinus. "To be blunt, they think they can just put up an event and use our patents and brands as they please."
The Royalty Soapie Awards organised by Generations' Winnie Modise is set to take place in Durban on 2 November but is now no longer representative of the entire South African TV soap industry given e.tv's exclusion.
"We spend millions and invest millions on local television content, particularly around the soaps like Rhythm City and Scandal!. In addition we spend a lot of marketing money on it to build these great brands. People can't just come to us and say we're starting an award. It's becoming fashionable just to start awards."
"We want to be a part of it, but we need to take care of what's the intention around a particular awards ceremony," says Monde Twala. "What's the benefit for not only the broadcaster but what's the benefit for the actors, what's the benefit for producers, directors?"
"There's a lot of clutter at the moment in terms of different people coming up with all sorts of award events. We have to be careful how we associate and who we associate with in terms of how we manage our brands."
"We're running a business here and we're running a long term business you know. I've seen awards shows come and go, believe me, and I'm sure you have also. We need to be cautious and there needs to be a broader discussion apart from just someone hosting an awards event around soapies," says Monde Twala.
"We are a part of the South African Film and Television Awards. We had numerous meetings. We had a similar issue with the Saftas and over the last period we've had meetings with the Saftas. They've been very transparent with us. And these guys haven't. They haven't been transparent with us."
"The Saftas is an industry award that involves everyone else. It includes industry players. I don't know who is included in the Royalty Soapie Awards. Who are the judges? They say they've got judges. They're not giving us the facts. We don't know what the judging process is."
"We're not just going to blindly go into awards and mess up our brands," says Monde Twala.
Royalty Soapie Awards: 'It's a pity that e.tv did not allow their soaps to enter'; 'judges only revealed at the winners' announcement ceremony'.
The Royalty Soapie Awards, the new upstart South African awards ceremony looking to bestow statuettes on South Africa's TV soap stars and those working behind the scenes cranking out these weekday sudsers, tells TV with Thinus that "it's a pity that e.tv did not allow their soap productions to enter".
It comes after e.tv decided to pull both its local South African soaps Rhythm City and Scandal! from The Royalty Soap Awards, instantly nullifying the perceived credibility within the South African TV industry of the new awards ceremony organised by Generations actress Winnie Modise.
ALSO READ: e.tv on pulling its soaps from the Royalty Soapie Awards: "To be blunt: They think they can just put up an event and use our brands'.
With 20 categories, and viewers' votes deciding "Most Popular Soapie of the Year", it means a hollow victory for the winner since viewers who might have wanted to vote for Rhythm City or Scandal! won't be able to do so.
With major questions around who judged the various categories and who the judges are since the organisers have refused to release any names, the Royalty Soapie Awards says the judges will only be revealed at the winners' announcement ceremony set for 2 November in Durban.
"It's a pity that e.tv did not allow their soap productions to enter. However we do respect their decision, as all roleplayers have the prerogative to participate or not," Sindile Zulu, Royalty Soapie Awards project director tells TV with Thinus.
Asked for a list of the judges, Sindile Zulu says "the names of the judges will only be revealed at the winners' announcement ceremony. This is done to ensure that there is no interference from any quarter and that the integrity of the entire process is protected. This applies to many similar awards locally and abroad."
"The judges are from a broad spectrum of people in the arts. They are experts in the TV production industry, photographers, actors, TV and radio personalities and entertainment media."
Asked how the Royalty Soapie Awards can see itself as representative of South Africa's TV soap industry if not all soaps on South African television are taking part, Sindile Zulu says "it has always been the intention of the Royalty Soapie Awards to be inclusive of the industry as a whole".
"Industry support for these awards has been extremely positive with all broadcasters bar one submitting entries. Over 100 entries have been received from 10 of South Africa's 12 soap productions. This represents over 80% of the industry."
"e.tv's decision is unfortunate, however we aim to build the confidence of the broadcaster so that all South African soaps will participate moving forward," says Sindile Zulu.
According to Sindile Zulu the Royalty Soapie Awards established a representative steering committee made up of specialists from TV broadcasting stations and non-conflicting production houses, "those who had no soapies to enter". "A representative executive producer from e.tv was a part of the original team".
Sindile Zulu says the Royalty Soapie Awards was "notified of e.tv's decision not to participate through the Rhythm City and Scandal! production teams. They were in the final process of submitting their entries when they were informed of the decision not to participate."
"We managed to secure a meeting with Monde Twala, e.tv's group head of channels, a week or two later to understand their position."
"He indicated that it is the broadcaster's intention to protect the brands that they have built and that he felt that e.tv had not received sufficient information to warrant participation in these awards. He indicated that their non-participation was based mostly on their lack of confidence in the entry and adjudication processes of award ceremonies in general, which he was not convinced were fair," says Sindile Zulu.
"As a new awards ceremony our priority is to grow," says Sindile Zulu. "We value the input of the industry into making the Royalty Soapie Awards trusted, supported and loved by all.Our intention is to convene a steering committee each year to better our criteria and to ensure that we are fully representative."
"We will continue to engage e.tv to hear the broadcaster's concerns and hopefully secure its future participation."

BREAKING. e.tv pulls its soaps Rhythm City and Scandal! from the Royalty Soapie Awards, citing a lack of info about the judges.
e.tv has pulled both its soaps Rhythm City and Scandal! from the Royalty Soapie Awards set to take place on 2 November in Durban making the upstart awards show instantly controversial and making the results unrepresentative and non-inclusive of South Africa's local soap opera industry, with e.tv saying the broadcaster didn't get enough information about the planned awards.
e.tv says the broadcaster decided to pull both Scandal! and Rhythm City from the Royalty Soapie Awards organised by Generations actress Winnie Modise since no information about the judging process, aims and other criteria were forthcoming from the organisers.
Both Rhythm City and Scandal! are now shut out from all categories, similar to when e.tv pulled Rhythm City and Scandal! from the 6th South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) in March 2012 which suffers from an ongoing credibility problem regarding impartiality and judging.
e.tv's soaps which are not eligible, makes something like the Royalty Soapie Awards instantly an industry sham, since viewers' votes who determine the winner of a category such as "Most Popular Soapie of the Year" are not able to vote for a TV show they might want to vote for.
Without full industry buy in such as when South Africa's largest free-to-air commercial TV station say it doesn't want to be a part of it, makes it impossible to take a given awards ceremony - or the prizes handed out - seriously.
Sindile Xulu, Royalty Soapie Awards project director says "the purpose of these awards is to promite creativity, quality and excellence of local productions".
Apparently judging for the Royalty Soapie Awards has already taken place and auditing of the process is done by KPMG.
Monde Twala, e.tv's group head of channels says e.tv has "declined to participate in the Royalty Soapie Awards".
"We did not have sufficient information about the awards, its judging processes and overall objective. We have plans to meet with the organisers later this year to discuss the prospect of e.tv participating next year."
Only technical and creative nominees have been announced so far and the Royalty Soapie Awards have not made available a list of the judges or their credentials. Awards are presented in 20 categories, 18 of which are chosen by judges.

Royalty Soapie Awards, a new soap genre specific awards ceremony for South Africa, wants to 'boost the country's television sector'.
The Royalty Soapie Awards has been launched as a new genre-specific awards ceremony set to honour soap opera television in South Africa, with the 1st Royalty Soapie Awards set to take place on Saturday 2 November in Durban's International Convention Centre (ICC).
The Royalty Soapie Awards says it wants to "boost the country's television sector".
Similar to the South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas), the Royalty Soapie Awards which is done in partnership with the provincial KwaZulu-Natal government, appears to have some credibility issues.
The Royalty Soapie Awards is launched by Winnie Modise, an actress in a TV soap in the public broadcaster's Generations on SABC1; who the panel of judges will be is not clear; and its not's clear whether all 8 local South African soaps including those on pay-TV channels such as Binneland and Villa Rosa as well as telenovelas such as Isibaya would be eligible and be included.
Viewers will apparently nominate and vote for winners in the categories of Best Lead Actor, Best Lead Actress, Best Male Villain, Best Female Villain, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Newcomer and Best Couple.
Awards will also be handed out after voting by an industry panel for the categories of Best Costume, Best Post-production, Best Storyline, Best Soapie, Best Make-up, Best continuity, Best Writing, Most Popular Soapie, Best Set Design, Best Direction and Best Cast Ensemble. A lifetime achievement award, known as the Shaka Zulu Award will also be handed out.
