BET gives talk show to Keke Palmer; renews Real Husbands of Hollywood, The Game, Being Mary Jane, launches new shows.

BET (StarSat 151) has renewed Real Husbands of Hollywood (also seen in South Africa on Sony Entertainment Television, DStv 127) for a third season, Being Mary Jane for a second season, The Game for a 8th season and 106 & Park.

BET is also starting a new comedy series, The Start Up, a music competition series, Gone Gospel, as well as a dating show, Got Game. The Book of Negroes is a new 6 part historical drama series with Cuba Gooding Jr., Louis Gossett Jr. and Aunjanue Ellis.

It's not yet clear which of these new shows Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) will play out on BET as a TV channel, and which shows will be sold to other TV channels seen in South Africa.

BET which already has The Wendy Williams Show is also launching a brand-new daily talk show with Keke Palmer (photo) which Telepictures will produce.

Keke Palmer who played the title role in the movie Akeelah and The Bee in 2006 is just 20, which means her talk show debut will make her the youngest ever American TV talk show host with a daily talk show. Keke Palmer's talk show will cover fashion, pop culture, social issues, sex and  feature celebrity interviews.

If her talk show is a success following four weeks of daily episodes as a try-out starting on BET in July, its not yet clear if Keke Palmer's talk show would be added to BET International's schedule for the United Kingdom and Africa/South Africa, or would be sold elsewhere to channels like M-Net Series Reality (DStv 114) for instance.

Real Husbands of Hollywood on BET on TopTV renewed for second season of 12 episodes.

Real Husbands of Hollywood on BET (TopTV 190) which started in January in America and in February in South Africa has just been renewed for a second season which will have 12 episodes.

The semi-reality series with Kevin Hart, Nick Cannon, Boris Kodjoe, Duane Martin, J.B. Smoove and Robin Thicke will be back for a second season, BET has announced, giving viewers an insight into the "real" life of the breakthrough comedian Kevin Hart and his Hollywood friends as they navigate their way through stardom alongside - or in spite of - their famous wives.

"When we launched this series in January, we knew our audience would have as much fun watching it as we had making it, and since it has been on the air, fans have voiced on social media that they want more. So this was a pretty simple decision: 'Hey, let's make more!" says Stephen Hill, BET's president of music programming and specials in a statement.

"We are beyond thrilled that Kevin Hart and the stellar Husbands will be back bickering and back-biting for another season on BET."

Real Husbands of Hollywood, the brand-new reality show on BET in America is coming to BET (TopTV 190) in South Africa with episodes of the first season of the highly-rated show to start here less than a month after the American premiere.

Last month I reported about the new reality show from BET which was set to start on 15 January in America on BET, as indeed it did,.

The semi-scripted reality show following the surreal tinseltown lives of Nick Cannon (husband of Mariah Carey), Boris Kodjoe (husband of Nicole Ari Parker), Duane Martin (husband of Tisha Campbell-Martin), J.B. Smoove (husband of Shahidah Omar) and Robin Thicke (husband of Paula Patton).

Now I can break the news that Real Husbands of Hollywood will start on BET on TopTV in South Africa on Wednesday 13 February at 00:00 (South African time) (the midnight of the Wednesday, which technically makes it Thursday morning).

Real Husbands of Hollywood - the first season is so far set to have 9 episodes - performed extremely well in the ratings in America where it just started, the first episode pulled in 4,14 million viewers on BET.

Two new shows coming to BET in 2013: the reality show Real Husbands of Hollywood and comedy Second Generation Wayans.

Two new shows are coming to BET (TopTV 190) in 2013 - although there's no word yet on when they will start on the BET channel feed from Britain which South Africans get to see: Real Husbands of Hollywood and Second Generation Wayans.

Both shows will start on BET on 15 January in America and could forseeably be seen in South Africa very quickly since the programming lag window for BET for South Africa is smaller than with most foreign TV channels pumping to this country (The Wendy Williams talk show is for instance the same day episode in South Africa as in the United States).
