BREAKING. Brothers and Sisters, V, No Ordinary Family, Off the Map, The Event, Law & Order: Los Angeles all cancelled; Chuck renewed.

Following the cancellation of the dramas Lie to Me as well as Human Target comes the news that the dramas Brothers and Sisters (M-Net), V (M-Net Series), No Ordinary Family (M-Net Series) and Off the Map (M-Net Series soon) as well as The Event (M-Net) and Law & Order: Los Angeles (M-Net) have all been cancelled.

The ABC network in America decided against a shortened 6th season for Brothers and Sisters that will never get the chance to film a proper series finale, and there will also not be a 3rd season to explain all the cliffhangers at the end of the 2nd season of V.
Meanwhile the NBC network has cancelled The Event and Law & Order: Los Angeles after both had dismal first seasons. The Event could possibly continue if another TV channel in America does perhaps want the show. Chuck (M-Net, SABC2) has been renewed for a shortened 5th and final season of 13 episodes.

The cancellations of the myriad of shows would come as bad news to especially the M-Net channel (DStv 101) that had Brothers and Sisters, The Event, Law & Order: Los Angeles and Chuck and wants to be known for hit shows. It does however open up new opportunies and timeslots for the pay broadcaster that can be filled with new buzz-worthy shows.

UPDATE Saturday 14 May 01:00 - Better with You (M-Net) has now been cancelled as well. The new Harry's Law (just starting on M-Net) has been renewed for  2nd season.

EMERGENCY. Why Brothers & Sisters is now creating a whole lot of Trauma instead for SABC3.

You're reading it here first.

So. SABC3 gathered journalists writing about TV together a while ago in Cape Town. Showed clips of upcoming stuff for the 4th quarter of 2010. Said Brothers & Sisters is starting on SABC3 but showed scenes of a black American family fighting, one being dragged down the stairs by the police. Apologized profusely afterwards and said that wasn't Brothers & Sisters. (As if!) Then SABC3 gathered the Johannesburg TV writers the next day, and did the exact same thing again. (Which basically just emphasizes that SABC3 will actually rather show a wrong promo than no promo at all.)

Now I can tell you than basically not only did SABC3 sell a show to the South African TV press it didn't have (a big and embarrasing no-no in TV land) and told journalists that it's planning on brodcasting a show before the channel was sure it definitely had acquire the broadcasting rights, it's even more cringe-worthy bad that SABC3 still doesn't have Brothers & Sisters. Hence . . . the start of Trauma in a week's time, this coming Monday on SABC3 at 21:00.

Trauma, a medical drama set in San Francisco (that was cancelled after its first season of 18 episodes) is the ''replacement'' for what according to sources would have been Brothers & Sisters on SABC3. Trauma will be going out Mondays to Wednesdays on the channel.

HUH? SABC3 bumbles with a ''black'' Brothers & Sisters that it doesn't yet have the broadcasting rights of.

You're reading it here first.

SABC3 made a big boo-boo at its latest quarterly press screening where it rolled out its new shows for the fourth quarter for TV writers and journalist covering the television industry.

Instead of showing footage of the actual Brothers & Sisters the channel's promo reel showed black family histrionics with people falling down a staircase and a mom fainting while the words Brothers & Sisters flashed on screen. What the press was treated to was in fact another drama series and not the one about the Walker family from California.

It got even more akward afterwards. Risuna Mayimele, SABC3's marketing manager apologized to the press for showing the wrong family and incorrect clip during the presentation. ''Also, please note that SABC3 has not yet secured the rights to Brothers & Sisters,'' Risuna Mayimele said matter-of-factly.

Which means that not only did SABC3 get their own selection of preview content wrong, the channel also tried to sell a show to the press of which it has not yet cleared the broadcasting rights of. A day later SABC3 repeated the mistake when the Johannesburg TV press was shown the reel.

BREAKING. SABC3 snags the rights for the drama Brothers & Sisters that will go out from September.

You're reading it here first.

I can reveal that SABC3 has snagged the rights to broadcast the American family drama series Brothers & Sisters, which will be broadcast on SABC3 from September.

The drama series revolving around the intricately interwoven lives of the fictional Walker family in California is already a hit on M-Net. I can tell you that the first season of Brothers & Sisters is set to start on SABC3 on 6 September at 21:00 for 23 episodes. SABC3 will broadcast Brothers & Sisters from Mondays to Wednesdays with three episodes per week.
