US president Donald Trump threatens '100% tariff on any and all' films made outside America including those produced in South Africa

Following on his tariff chaos that continues to damage the American and global markets, the United States president Donald Trump on Sunday night threatened to impose a 100% tariff on "any and all" films made outside of the USA, like for instance, South Africa.

Several foreign films are shot in South Africa as a growing global film destination, like Amazon Prime Video's recent G20 with Viola Davis, and Huntington from Canal+ starring Glen Powell, Ed Harris and Margaret Qualley that was written and directed by John Patton Ford.

Other American streaming services like Netflix and Hollywood studios also produce films in South Africa, besides numerous other countries.

On his Truth Social social media platform, Donald Trump wrote that he is "authorizing" the US department of commerce and the US trade representative to impose a 100% tariff on all films produced in "foreign lands".

According to Donald Trump, "The Movie Industry in America is dying a very fast death".

"Other Countries are offering all sorts of incentives to draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States. Hollywood, and many other areas within the USA, are being devastated."

"This is a concerted effort by other nations and, therefore, a National Security threat. It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda!"

"Therefore, I am authorising the department of commerce, and the United States Trade Representative, to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100% Tariff on any and all movies coming into our country that are produced in foreign lands. We want movies made in America, again!"
