The 7th Joburg Film Festival which will run from 11 to 16 March will showcase 100 films this year in Johannesburg in South Africa with the documentary Ernest Cole: Lost and Found as the opener.
The 3rd Joburg Xchange (JBX) film market will again run concurrently alongside the Sandton-set film festival that this year has the theme of "The Golden Thread", and includes a selection of film and TV-related panel discussions.
Nhlanhla Ndaba is the Joburg Film Festival curator.
Taryn Joffe, Joburg Film Festival manager, says "JBX 2025 aims to elevate African filmmakers, fostering growth through targeted discussions, business connections, and youth training".
The 7th Joburg Film Festival will have 28 African film premieres ranging from fiction to non-fiction, as well as 12 world premieres which include two South African films.
Some of the films at the 7th Joburg Film Festival is Bos, a post-apocalyptic thriller set in a future South Africa, where society is left in ruins, and survivors are forced to confront moral dilemmas and fight for their very survival.
The Man Died, is an autobiographical film based on the prison memoir of Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka. It tells the emotional story of his imprisonment without trial by a ruthless military regime intent on silencing his voice, offering a poignant portrayal of his resilience and defiance in the face of oppression.
Happy - The True Story of Happy Sindane will have a world premiere that tells the story of a teenage white boy, raised by a black family, who goes looking for his biological white parents.
