In a shocking move, MultiChoice is hiking DStv prices for a second time within a year in Kenya and this time by up to 6%, with DStv subscribers who saw their DStv subscription fees going up by as much as 10% since April this year, having to brace for yet another massive increase from August.
MultiChoice Kenya is hiking prices for all of its DStv and GOtv packages in Kenya, blaming the country's ongoing currency depreciation and rising inflation.
It's extremely unusual for MultiChoice to raise prices twice within a year within any African country, and last did a DStv price hike of almost another 10% in September 2022 in Kenya, after which the next DStv price increase since April 2023 followed.
Now DStv subscribers in Kenya are getting yet another price hike just four months after the last one in April.
DStv Kenya is hiking DStv Premium from Sh9500 to Sh9900 from August, an increase of 4.2%.
DStv Compact Plus is increasing 5% from Sh5900 to Sh6200, DStv Compact is increased 6% from Sh3300 to Sh3500, DStv Family is increased 5.7% from Sh1750 to Sh1850, and DStv Access is increased by 4% from Sh1250 to Sh1300.
MultiChoice Kenya is hiking the GOtv Max bouquet by 8.6% from Sh1749 to Sh1899, and is increasing the price of the GOtv Supa bouquet by 7.4% from Sh1349 to Sh1449.
MultiChoice Kenya is telling DStv subscribers in the country that it "understands times are tough and Kenyans are under pressure to make every shilling, which if spend, counts. For this reason, we kept the price adjustment below inflation".
