Mzansi Magic (DStv 161) has cancelled DiepCity with the current second season of the weekday telenovela which will be its last.
DiepCity, produced by Black Brain Productions, averaged 606 030 DStv subscribers in July, and will end on 3 March 2023 after 240 episodes.
"Since its debut in April 2021, DiepCity has added colour, life and heart to our channel, and it has continued to give us dynamic and enthralling storylines," says Shirley Adonisi, M-Net director for local entertainment channels, in a statement.
"We would like to thank the production, cast and crew for their commitment to the series, dedication to their craft and consistent hard work."
Mzansi Magic says it will continue to "maintain a working relationship" with Black Brain Pictures, with which it previously produced drama series like Vula Vala and Lockdown.
DiepCity set in the Johannesburg township of Diepsloot follows the lives of residents walking the fine lines between poverty and prosperity, legality and crime, and the impact their decisions have on them and their loved ones.
The DiepCity cast includes Mduduzi Mabaso, Dawn Thandeka King, Nozuko Ncayiyane, Nompumelelo Vilakazi, Hamilton Dhlamini, Vele Manenje, Obed Baloyi, Lebohang Mpyana, Zikhona Bali and Kgaogelo Monama.
