Actor, pastor and author Arthur Mbambo, known for his role as Bab’ Buthelezi in SABC2's Muvhango has died.

The veteran actor, pastor and author Arthur Mbambo who has been known for roles in series like Muvhango has died.

In a statement, SABC2's Venda weekday soap Muvhango said that "It's with great sadness that Word of Mouth Pictures and the Muvhango family annouce the passing of Arthur Mbambo".

"Word of Mouth Pictures and Muvhango wish to extend their heartfelt condolences to Arthur Mbambo's family".

Arthur Mbambo played the role of Mnyamane Buthelezi in Muvhango, who was Thandaza Buthelezi's on-screen father.

The news of Arthur Mbambo's death was confirmed by his daughter, Mbali Mbambo. His cause of death is not yet known.

Arthur Mbambo started his career in 1982 with no formal training and appeared in dozens of local South African TV series over the years, including 6 films like Quiet ThunderWild Zone, The Schoolmaster and Max and Mona. Series he appeared in include Generations, Emzini Wezinsizwa, Soul Buddyz and Tshisa.

The SABC in a statement said "Arthur Mbambo graced our television screens from as far back as the ’70s with a myriad of memorable roles which he always turned into his own."

"Arthur Mbambo has been part of the SABC family for decades, starring in popular dramas like Hlala Kwabafileyo, Ifa La Kwa Mthethwa, Emzini Wezinsizwa, S’gudis Nice, Generations and Kwakhala Nyonini."

"Arthur Mbambo has left a big void in the entertainment industry. He will be remembered for his immense contribution to the industry and will be sorely missed on our screens. The SABC extends its heartfelt condolences to the Mbambo family during this difficult time."
