Viacom's Nickelodeon (DStv 305) has commissioned the new animation series, Kamp Koral, as an original prequel spinoff from its SpongeBob SquarePants series.
The 13-episode, CG-animated series will introduce a younger, 10-year-old SpongeBob SquarePants during his summer at sleepaway camp and his adventures that took place before the SpongeBob SquarePants series.
Production on Kamp Koral is set to begin production in June at Nickelodeon in Burbank, California in the United States.
"SpongeBob has an incredible universe to expand upon and the greenlight for Kamp Koral is a testament to the strength and longevity of these characters known and loved by generations of fans around the world," says Ramsey Naito, executive vice president of animation production and development for Nickelodeon.
In Kamp Koral, SpongeBob and his pals spend the summer building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish, and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the craziest camp in the kelp forest, Kamp Koral.
Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller of SpongeBob SquarePants are co-executive producers on the series.
