Embarrassment after SuperSport abruptly cancels planned interview of Mark Nicholas with South African cricket legends.
SuperSport has abruptly cancelled a planned live interview on DStv with the South African cricket legends, Barry Richards, Graeme Pollock and Mike Procter - without giving them a reason why the interview with Mark Nicholas was suddenly scrapped.
Rapport newspaper reports that Mark Nicholas' interview with the three former cricketers was scheduled to take place during lunchtime on the second day of the third Test between the Proteas and Pakistan at Wanderers earlier in January but was then cancelled, leaving the cricketers embarrassed and confused.
Barry Richards, Graeme Pollock and Mike Procter all showed up at SuperSport's request at the Wanderers and waited in one of the corporate rooms for the scheduled interview but were suddenly told, 20 minutes before the set broadcasting time, that SuperSport decided to cancel the interview.
Mark Nicholas was apparently himself embarrassed and couldn't give the three men any reason or excuse as to why the agreed-upon SuperSport interview was suddenly cancelled after it had been confirmed.
Clinton van der Berg, SuperSport spokesperson, told Rapport that there was a discussion with Mark Nicholas and the three cricketers but that it was not relayed to the executive producer.
SuperSport added that Barry Richard's "negative comments" on Facebook also caused the planned interview to be cancelled.
