MultiChoice launching a 'thorough investigation' after an employee claims that she was raped by more than one senior DStv colleague in 2014.
MultiChoice says the satellite pay-TV operator operating the DStv service will be launching what it called in a statement a "thorough investigation" after a South African woman claims that she was raped by senior MultiChoice colleagues in 2014.
When the victim complained to a MultiChoice executive about further issues regarding the alleged abusive culture inside MultiChoice, the executive called Simon allegedly told her in an email: "cheers".
"MultiChoice has noted with grave concern very serious allegations via a parody social media account of an alleged rape of one if its employees by her senior colleagues."
"The employee had previously advised the company that she had been kidnapped and sexually assaulted in 2014, but made no allegation of the involvement of co-employees," says MultiChoice.
"The company has provided the employee with support since this traumatic incident."
"The accused staff member identified by the account denies the allegations."
"Given the serious nature of the offence, the company will immediately conduct a thorough investigation of this matter," says MultiChoice in its statement.
On social media support has been building for a public protest to MultiChoice's MultiChoice City headquarters in Bram Fischer Drive in Randburg, Johannesburg on Friday morning 15 December at 10:00 under the hashtags #OccupyMultiChoice and #JusticeforGabiseleNgcobo.
Protesters are furious that MultiChoice has allegedly not done enough to protect and to help the woman and are planning on taking their public grievances to the pay-TV operator's door on Friday morning.
Julia Modise, MultiChoice's general manager for human resources on Wednesday this week sent an email to the alleged victim, asking to "meet with you to understand the matter and establish how the company can provide further support".
