The former chairperson of South Africa's broadcasting regulator, Paris Mashile, is once again back in the position, this time as acting chairperson.
The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) has appointed Paris Mashile as acting chairperson, replacing the outgoing acting chairperson Rubben Mohlaloga, whose term as an Icasa councillor ended at the end of August.
Rubben Mohlaloga was appointed as acting Icasa chairperson on 22 June 2016.
"In order to ensure continuity, the council of Icasa has unanimously agreed to appoint councillor Paris Mashile as the acting chairperson pending the formal appointment of a permanent chairperson," says Icasa in a statement.
Paris Mashile already served as Icasa chairperson for a 5-year term that ended on 30 June 2010.
Besides needing a permanent new chairperson, the embattled Icasa is also looking for a CEO after the abrupt departure in August of the suspended Pakamile Pongwana.
Pakamile Pongwana was placed on precautionary suspension in July pending a disciplinary hearing but he jumped a month later. Icasa COO Willington Ngwepe has been appointed as acting CEO in the meantime.
