What MultiChoice is going to do at the 2017 DStv Franschhoek Bastille Festival this coming weekend and why the pay-TV company decided to get involved.

This year, MultiChoice decided to partner with the Franschhoek Bastille Festival for the first time, with the 2017 DStv Franschhoek Bastille Festival that will be taking place from 14 to 16 July in Franschhoek.

What this means is that the pay-TV company will be having a presence at this annual food and wine festival in the Western Cape for the first time, where festival goers - against the backdrop of the historic Huguenot Monument at the Food & Wine Marquee - can sample some of the Franschhoek region's wines and nibble on some of the gourmet fare on offer.

I asked MultiChoice why the pay-TV operator decided to become involved with the DStv Franschhoek Bastille Festival this year - the next big outdoor place after the recent Durban July where I noticed that DStv also had a presence.

I think this is the first year that DStv is involved with the DStv Franschhoek Bastille Festival. Why did MultiChoice decide to become a sponsor of the DStv Franschhoek Bastille Festival and what does DStv's sponsorship entail?
Yes, you're correct, it is the first year DStv is partnering with the event. The DStv Franschhoek Bastille Festival provides the opportunity for DStv to showcase the power of great entertainment by allowing us to create a multi-sensory live experience of our customers' favourite DStv content.

The sponsorship entails the official naming of the event to DStv Franschhoek Bastille Festival, which propels us to lend our brand to an amazing DStv content experience.

We have also rewarded close to a thousands DStv customers with tickets and vouchers for them to experience the vent in a really special way. Bringing DStv channels into this space further allows us to create special moments for our customers in the area.

What is DStv doing and having at the festival, what will people visiting the DStv Franschhoek Bastille Festival see?
You can look forward to experiencing DStv channels such as kykNET, Sundance TV, the History Channel and SuperSport in a way that you have never experienced before.

Festival goers will also get the chance to prepare sumptuous meals with BBC Lifestyle's Great South African Bake Off judge Tjaart Walraven and the winner of the second season Cait McWilliams.

The Sundace TV channel brings you the best of theatrical movie screenings throughout the weekend between 15:00 and 18:00 and the Franschhoek Town Hall.

kykNET will bring Christmas in July with Koekedoortjie where judge Nic van Wyk will do cooking demonstrations with the kids at the Town Hall.

At the main venue Nik Rabinowitz will do History Channel prizes giveaways to lucky winners who can tell the history of Bastille.

We've added a mountain biking tour called the SuperSport Joy of Life Tour, a multi-day social mountain bike tour with SuperSport talent and viewers.

Lifestyle and food events and shows have grown across South Africa. Are these type of shows and festivals a specific focus point for MultiChoice to be seen at or to have a presence, and if so why?
And how much planning does this take?
At the Durban July there was a VIP area and activities on the beach that included beautiful sand castle type sculptures.
The gradual growth of food and lifestyle events delights us because in addition to sport, music and kids-driven events, they provide us the opportunity to engage different audiences in their different contexts and to connect, unite and entertain, just as the DStv Lounge did at the Vodacom Durban July.

We have really amazing teams consisting of our internal marketing and agency teams, who work tirelessly to create these experiences for our customers.
