MultiChoice improving DStv Explora with better software; enhanced interface will make the content discovery process easier.

MultiChoice will start to download newer software to the DStv Explora from Tuesday 15 September onwards to primarily improve the interface for the operator's content discovery process on this decoder.

With growing pressure from video-on-demand (VOD) services like Naspers' ShowMax, the Times Media Group's VIDI and others, South African pay-TV subscribers are becoming accustomed to better integrated interfaces, especially when it comes to how available content are displayed and presented on services' "storefront" screens.

The better pay-TV services and VOD players present their content and the easier they make it for users to search and discovery either what they want to watch and have been looking for, or what's on offer, the higher the likelihood is of "sticky-ness" - the potential that a viewer will engage with content and actually watch it and keep watching.

"DStv Explora customers will soon experience a whole new range of exciting improvements that will further enhance their viewing experience on DStv when the latest software is delivered to their Explora," says MultiChoice.

The latest software will be downloaded automatically to all active DStv Exploras from 15 September onwards.

Improvements include a separate tab for weekly recommendations and additional categories under the different genres arranged by Newest, Last Chance, 1st Episode and A-Z.

On connected DStv Exploras, MultiChoice is adding the option to download content in SD or HD, the ability to schedule downloads for specific times, as well as a new history screen and a ready to watch option.

The DMX DJ will also get a refresh on the DStv Explora to ensure song information is loaded quicker.

"When we launched the DStv Explora in 2013, we promised that we will continue to build on this platform to give our customers the best entertainment experience possible," says Nyiko Shiburi, MultiChoice general manager for consumer devices.

"We’ll continue to explore further ways to enhance the Explora."
