Pawn Stars South Africa will follow eccentric pawn shop owner Roy Peretz when it starts on 14 October on DStv's History channel.

South Africa's version of Pawn Stars will follow South Africa's pawn shop owner Roy Peretz when the local version of the show starts on History (DStv 186) on 14 October on MultiChoice's DStv.

The reality show is getting a local version of the hit show which has seen an American and a British version and will debut in three months' time on the DStv channel run by A+E Networks UK.

A+E Networks UK has not responded to a media enquiry made about the show.

Pawn Stars South Africa was produced by Rapid Blue and the South African version follows the eccentric Johannesburg pawn shop owner Roy Peretz dealing with all kinds of South Africans trying to sell him anything from a 19th century German pencil sharpener to a YAK-52 Soviet-era aeroplane.

The Spanish-born Roy Peretz is supported by an "off-the-wall" team of experts.

The original American Pawn Stars series follows the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas since 2009, revolving around the people who collect and buy and sell antiques and a wide array of weird, wonderful and unusual items.

Pawn Stars UK, a British version, started last year based on the same History channel format and follows Simon Penworth and Mark Manning from Regal Pawn.

Both Simon Penworth and Mark Manning attended MultiChoice's MultiChoice Content Showcase as part of A+E Networks UK's History presentation to journalists.
