M-Net dumps the M-Net Literary Awards, awards honouring writers and book in all South African languages no longer going ahead.

M-Net has dumped its annual M-Net Literary Awards, with no awards for 2014 which will be taking place.

The end of the M-Net Literary Awards which has inexplicably been suspended, comes as a blow to not just the publishing and book industry in South Africa but to all readers and writers in South Africa.

The M-Net Literary Awards which M-Net started in 1991, was the only book awards in South Africa to award prizes to books written in all of South Africa's languages and often awarded prizes to emerging writers, especially from little recognised yet official languages.

There's been no word or explanation from M-Net yet as to why, this story will update as more details and information becomes available.
