ANN7's broadcasting quality remains unacceptably low for DStv subscribers who have to pay for trash television.
The broadcasting quality of ANN7 (DStv 405) remains unacceptably low for DStv subscribers who have to pay a monthly subscription fee for trash television.
Entering its 6th month broadcasting on TV, the mistake-riddled 24-hour South African TV news channel from Infinity Media is an exercise in a live, ongoing barrage of cringe-worthy technical and on-air mistakes.
On Friday evening, 11 January at 19:30 in primetime, TV with Thinus, which daily monitors all the available TV news channels seen and received in South Africa, switched to ANN7.
After just 2 minutes this happened. Every time ANN7 is watched, it's filled with embarrassing problems and mistakesas a live TV news channel DStv subscribers have to pay for.
In the insta-blooper which just randomly happened 2 minutes after ANN7 was tuned to, the ANN7 reporter is in Johannesburg, but the story shows visuals of Cape Town. (Which managing news editor okay'ed this editing (keep in mind television and TV news is a visual medium - you shouldn't confuse the viewer.)
The ANN7 story then stops and ANN7's on-screen visuals except for the news crawl suddenly freezes up. The viewer is left hearing dim studio ambient noise which should never ever happen, the next package doesn't play for multiple seconds which in TV news time is an eternity; and ANN7 then - as usual when this embarrassing channel messes up - simply cuts away to a stop gap ad.
Why is ANN7's on-air quality not improving? Why did MultiChoice not remove ANN7 from the DStv channel line-up until the channel is able to guarantee a minimum of on-screen quality?
Why do South African TV viewers and DStv subscribers have to be the guinea pigs of Infinity Media's live on-air experimentation and try-and-fail attempts, instead of getting a TV product right first offline, and then going live?
What is MultiChoice's broadcasting standards and quality standards for a channel such as ANN7, and what is MultiChoice doing about ANN7 clearly not being able to be a real TV channel?
