SABC has spent more than R10,8 million in legal fees getting rid of top SABC executives; R19,5 million spent on investigating corruption.
The SABC has coughed up more than R10,8 million since January 2009 in legal costs in disputes in the public broadcaster's various messy and protracted fights with several senior executives who've left the SABC, it has been revealed in parliament.
Another R19,5 million has been spent on investigating a litany of corruption charges at the broadcaster.
Disciplinary action has been taken against 300 SABC employees and 14 cases have been referred to the police.
The SABC spent R10,87 million on legal fees to resolve dismissal disputes.
The majority of these cases relate to SABC top management including the general manager of the SABC's now defunct 24-hour news channel SABC News International, the head of procurement, the news editor, the chief financial officer (CFO), the general executive for news and current affairs and the SABC's own chief audit executive.
