Media Monitor starts on SABC News on Sundays at 09:00 with Alicia Jali, looking at the week's media and press coverage.
Media Monitor presented by Alicia Jali has made its debut on SABC News (DStv 404), the SABC's new 24-hour TV news channel, as a brand-new weekly meta media show examining news coverage and the media.
Media Monitor on Sundays at 09:00 is an hour long show and is scheduled just before Maggs on Media on Sundays on the eNCA (DStv 403) at 10:30, South Africa's other 24-hour TV news channel.
The SABC issued no press material, press information, synopsis, weekly programme summary, publicity images, press release or programme profile about Media Monitor to South African TV critics and writers and didn't respond with information to requests the past week seeking basic publicity information about specific SABC News programming such as this show.
Media Monitor is the first time a local actuality TV show covering and looking at the media and press coverage is produced and shown on the SABC since Between the Lines which started during the 1990s on SABC3 was eventually cancelled.
"Hello to the very first edition of our programme, Media Monitor on SABC News, channel 404 on DStv," Alicia Jali welcomed viewers.
"The concept of Media Monitor is to monitor and evaluate some of the news coverage of the major news stories of the day and the week. It will also include stakeholders who are not necessarily in the media, editors, news makers, and commentators on the media," explained Alicia Jali.
"This will include academics, columnists, civil society, non-government sectors, experts, regulators and oversight bodies."
