The SABC's new interim board whose names were rushed through parliament's portfolio committee on communications last month and who was rubber-stamped into place on Monday by president Jacob Zuma is set to meet Tuesday, 23 April, with parliament to talk about how to stabilise the beleaguered South African public broadcaster.
President Jacob Zuma approved Zandile Tshabalala as the new chairperson of the interim SABC board, Noluthando Gosa as deputy chairperson who has resigned twice before as SABC board member, and as interim SABC board members the economist Iraj Abedian, the former public service commissioner member Vusumzi Mavuso, and the chartered accountant Ronnie Lubisi.
The 5 person SABC interim board met with the minister of communications, Dina Pule, yesterday.
The SABC also issued a press statement about the new SABC interim board.
"The
management and staff of the SABC welcome the new board and we have full
confidence that they will continue to guide the organisation as we prepare for
digital migration, as well as ensuring that the financial stability of the
corporation continues," says Lulama Mokhobo, the SABC CEO in the statement.
"The new interim board has a blend of skills and
experience across a wide range of industries that will no doubt serve the
corporation well, as they play an oversight and guidance role in our
operations."
