Disney's 3 TV channels on DStv - Disney, Disney XD and Disney Junior - now gets over 50% of all kids in DStv households.

Disney South Africa touted today that they have the number one rated kids group of TV channels in South Africa with the 3 Disney channels - The Disney Channel (DStv 303), Disney XD (DStv 304) and Disney Junior (DStv 309) - commanding over 50% of the total kids channels audience who've tuning into MultiChoice's DStv pay-TV platform over the past year.

Walt Disney South Africa launched Disney XD and Disney Junior a year ago in South Africa, supplementing the already hugely successful Disney Channel.

According to Disney in the last measured quarter (April to June) the Disney channels combined reached 7 million people aged 4 and older (or 62%) of all DStv households,of which 2 million were kids in Disney's desired 4 to 15 age bracket. This makes Disney the brand to beat when it comes to television in the kids and teens genre in South Africa.

The mothers like it too. Disney XD now ranks as the number one and Disney Junior as the number 2 kids channels in the market, reaching almost two thirds (64%) of mothers in DStv households in the most recent, second quarter of 2012 - and remember: its mums who control the remote control when it comes to small children.

Marciej Bral, the vice-president for Disney Channels for the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region and emerging markets in which South Africa falls, says Disney has taken South Africa by storm.

"We knew there was demand for a high quality boy-focused and preschool content when we launched the two new channels last year, but it is testament to our unique offering for the family audience that we reached the number one position in such a short space of time and have stayed there."
