BREAKING. BBC looking for a new leader who has 'an international mindset' and multimedia knowledge.

The BBC is looking for a new director-general to lead the British Broadcasting Corporation who has an "international mindset", who isn't necessarily a journalist or programme-maker but who has multimedia knowledge.

The BBC is advertising the top position at the BBC on the BBC Careers website with a closing date of 7 May 2012.

The successful candidate will be taking over from Mark Thompson who is stepping down as director-general of the BBC after 8 years in August. His replacement will likely be appointed in June.

"An international mindset is essential. Experience of operating internationally would be desirable," says the job advert. The successful candidate will be "able to admit quickly when in the wrong ... but stand up to huge pressure without bending when s/he believes that it is right to do so".

The BBC's new director-general doesn't need experience "as a journalist and/or programme maker" - it's "desirable but is not essential." Another essential requirement is "an understanding of new platforms and technologies."

"The BBC operates in a unique framework of governance and regulation ... as a key external face for the BBC, candidates will need to have credibility with a wide range of external stakeholders (with politicians, regulators, media etc)" says the job ad.
