Discovery Networks CEEMEA commissions its first pan-regional documentary show, Ultimate Cops, to start in Africa on 23 April.

Discovery Networks for the Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (CEEMEA) region has commissioned a new tactical police unit documentary series, the first pan-regional TV show commissioned by Discovery Networks CEEMEA.

Ultimate Cops will be shown in 150 countries within the CEEMEA region simultaneously, and will start showing in Africa on The Discovery Channel (DStv 121) from 23 April after starting in Eastern Europe on 13 April. Ultimate Cops is produced by Britain's Atom Productions International.

Ultimate Cops was commissioned by Paul Welling, Discovery Networks CEEMEA senior vice president and head of channels. Ultimate Cops follows tactical police units in countries such as Russia, Romania and Poland fighting crime in the cities of Moscow, Bucharest and Warsaw.

''Not only is Ultimate Cops our first commission for Discovery Networks CEEMEA, it's also the first series of its kind for this region of the world,'' says Paul Welling. ''Tough men and women taking on the challenges of daily police work and keeping the crime out of our homes is an exciting story, especially when you add in the context of former Soviet Union cities, that continue to evolve month by month.''

Ultimate Cops is filmed by the same crew behind Discovery's Bear Grylls: Ultimate Survival, including series producer Charlie Smith and cameraman Simon Reay.
