I can break the news that Star! (TopTV ccc) has secured the broadcasting rights to the 27th Film Independent Spirit Awards which will be shown in South Africa on - co-incidentally - the same day that M-Net (DStv 101) will be showing the 84th Annual Academy Awards: 27 February.
The 27th Film Independent Spirit Awards, an annual ceremony honouring the best of independent films in America, actually takes place a day or so before Hollywood's annual Oscars, but Star! which secured the rights, will be showing it just a few days later, making it the same day for South Africa as the day after the 84th Annual Academy Awards taking place in Hollywood on 26 February.
Star! has the 27th Independent Spirit Awards scheduled for 12:00 (South African time) on 27 February, with a repeat broadcasts on 28 February at 08:00. In America it takes place on 25 February this year, with Seth Rogen as the host.
In keeping with its free-spirited tradition, the Film Independent Spirit Awards takes place each year inside a beachfront tent in Santa Monica, attended by several Hollywood stars.
