Modern Family's Ariel Winter has been chosen to voice The Walt Disney Company's new princess in a new TV movie as well as TV series called Sofia the First that will be shown on The Disney Channel (DStv 303) and Disney Junior (DStv 309) in 2012. The Sofia the First TV series, which will follow the movie, will be shown in 2013 Deadline reports.
Sofia the First is an in-house animated production from Disney Television Animation. An ordinary girl's life is transformed as her mother marries a king, while other famous and classic Disney characters will appear.
''In Sofia, we have a 'peer-to-peer princess', a relatable girl experiencing the same social issues as our young viewers – learning how to fit in, making new friends, conquering new skills and building sibling relationships,” said Nancy Kanter, senior vice president of original programming and general manager of Disney Junior Worldwide, in a press statement.
