Programming note: ESPN loaded with live coverage of the NFL, college football, Winter X Games 16 and the PGA Tour in January 2012.
ESPN (DStv 230) will kick off January 2012 will live coverage of the NFL Playoffs, full coverage of the BCS Bowl Games, broadcast the Winter X Games, have coverage of the NBA and NCAA basketball and the Spanish Primera DivisiĆ³n, with the month also seeing the return of Supercross racing, the PGA Tour golf and the National Hockey League.
January will see the start of live coverage on ESPN for South African viewers of the National Football League (NFL) Playoffs, setting the stage for the sport's biggest event, Super Bowl XLVI, coming in February.
Broadcast on weekdays throughout the year on ESPN is NFL Live, a fast-paced studio show that delves into the latest news making headlines around the NFL. NFL Live – now expanded to one hour – is on 23:00 (South African time) on weekdays.
January marks the end of another NCAA College Football season with live coverage on ESPN of the Bowl Championship Series (BCS). ESPN will have full coverage of the BCS Games live with all games, as well as live pregame and postgame coverage.
The Winter X Games 16 will be covered from Aspen, live on ESPN from 27 to 30 January.
ESPN's coverage of the NBA will also be shown live (Wednesday and Friday games in America are seen on Thursdays and Saturdays in South Africa) and also get a same-day rebroadcast in the afternoon or evening for South African viewers.
ESPN's roundtable talk show, ESPNSoccernet Press Pass continues six days a week at 19:00 (South African time), Monday to Saturday, with the Monday show expanded to one hour.
ESPN will also have live coverage of the PGA Tour from La Quinta, California from 19 January.
